Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

There was not a long-standing conflict in Iraq between Sunnis/Shia

The conflict goes back almost 1400 years, and you're simply demonstrating Hussein's dictatorial powers by referencing cooperation in the Iran / Iraq war.

The only lesson here is that it is terrible to be on the short end of history.

you are the media you consume.

in 1400y , There have been pretty much no deadly conflict between Shia/Sunni (we cannot say the same in Europe).

Think of US without any infrastructure, police, army, education, water, bank system, electricity, with some reckless foreigners that put a huge mess. With the quantity of weaponry each American have, i am quite confident you would have the kind a deadly anarchy we see in Iraq.

the Iraq will be stabilized by the religious, and it will not be pretty.
