I think that, in designing ecologies, Leff would like to take advantage of local ethnobotanic and agricultural practices wherever they have proven to be sustainable; also, arts such as sustainable agriculture and agroecology and permaculture can point the way.  The point is to move off of production for the sake of squeezing the biggest possible surplus from labor, toward an emphasis upon ecological and social sustainability.
