I can understand the US pre-occupation with energy security, since this has manifestly been the basis of their foreign policy for the last 100 years.

Security of supply is one thing and security of price is another and the problem lies with the plans to impose manifestly unfair production sharing arrangements which will give the beneficiary oil companies rewards beyond the dreams of avarice until Iraqi oil has been sucked dry.

The obscenity of the US position - and for those responsible there is no hell hot enough - is that the true motive for the Iraq war, and the hundreds of thousands of deaths which have since  followed, was and remains the pursuit of private profit
