Not to derail your diary, but isn't the LHC the thing with all the Doomsday mythology attached to it? We flip the switch and unintentionally create a mini black hole that eventually eats up the Earth? That and a couple of other scenarios, if I recall.

Well plenty of physicists at ET so what better place to ask: is it simple urban myth, or is there actually some theoretical Doomsday risk attached to using the LHC?
