Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.
I think that the people get back in control of their country's destiny by a standard method called problem-solving or scientific method: folks with standing (involved and affected) gather data, discuss data, suggest solutions, vote on solutions, try solutions, repeat. Folks like us have some standing in certain situations, but we go a little further and try to provide data with or without an invitation.

As to logging in "preserves", if it's sustainable logging, I don't understand your reaction. Do you not like meadows (clear cuts or burned over) in forestland? Certain plants and animals do. Do you think that forests and forest ecology tend toward some static paradise? They don't. (In fact nothing in nature is stable.) I prefer thinned forests with layers of diverse flora and consequent fauna, where the remaining trees have sufficient water and nutrients to resist rot, disease, and bugs.
