Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Nice journal and photos. Was this last summer?

Of course, I am prejudiced about the topic; my (late) mother was raised there in fjord country (Sogn). Her mother was a goatherd almost a century ago in the mountains/valleys you passed through.
A few years ago I took my US partner for a 4-day trip there (the fjords); Oslo-Flåm by train, ferry to Balestrand - then fast boat to Bergen and plane back to Oslo:

Then the much gentler south coast at the family cabin:

As you may have noticed, the very first picture is actually looking at Balestrand - I took the photo on the dock waiting for the ferry to take us across Sognefjord. The Oslo-Flåm train was high on my list to do, and many people have recommended it, but there wasn't the proper occasion to fit it in.

And yes, this indeed was past summer.

Spectacular weather you got during your visit. And equally spectacular photos.

I did recognize Balestrand. My pic was taken from just in front of Kviknes Hotel and eastwards.
On the south coast cabin, we are just at the coast line and often have clear mornings, though as the day progresses the clouds build up inland and it's 50/50 whether we remain in sun or under the clouds. The pic was taken around 5.30 am.
As a kid, I spent every summer in the town next to Balestrand to the west (Høyanger).
