Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

To boot:

Exploiting the Tar Sands seems to offer a 'democratic' solution to America's oil addiction: let's produce our North American solution with our Canadian allies. It might cost more, but it blows past any concept of 'peak oil' for decades to come.

...and even that aint' the case. Tar sands contribute to supply and may delay Peak Oil, but not by much. 1.2 million barrels a day, that's a mere 1.5% of global production. And even if the Ontario government's 2030 expectations materialise, that 5 million barrels per day is still not that much -- especially if Canada's traditional oil sources are out by then.

So all this environmental destruction... for something without strategic effect.

Making it a twofer.

Really there are times when Derrick Jensen is hard to refute.

(One of his theses is that environmental destruction is a GOAL of civilization, arising from the desire to abuse and destroy.)
