RFI - White House denies dropping Polish, Czech missile plans
The White House has denied that it is dropping plans to build American anti-missile bases in Poland and the Czech Republi

Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza ran a main headline on Thursday screaming: "Poland Without a Shield".

The accompanying article cited Riki Ellison, the chairman of the 10,000 member-strong Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance, who claimed the US would abandon plans to house anti-missile bases in the two former Eastern bloc territories.

However, State Department spokesman PJ Crowley insisted that no such plans existed.

"I would call that report inaccurate," he told reporters.

Still that assessment the the U.S. State Dept. would fit within what the NY Times' anonymous White House sources were saying, which is that no final decision has been made. So either this was a trial balloon floated or a rumor furthered by defense contractors to try to ensure the billions-of-dollars systems will be purchased.
