Me thinks the greatest risk of DDOS-effect is if get up a diary that gathers the attention of - for example - the readership of DailyKos. Getting thousand of calls from bots or from actual readers has the same effect.

The effect at least used to be known as "getting slashdoted" from small sites mentioned at /. getting more traffic then they could cope with.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of "one step away from DK" attracting attention...regardless of content or viewpoints.
