I had another association with that event. At that time I was renting a house from a mechanical engineer who was employed by The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy which is based in Tuscon, AZ. and was manufacturing the telescope for Sierra Tololo, Chile - a companion piece to the Kitt Peak scope. My situation had changed, I had to move back to Los Angeles and needed to talk to him. The only communications were via radio telephone from AURA in Tuscon to Sierra Tololo, as this was the week of the coup. We could not talk about the events unfolding in Chile.
