Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

always stick to the script. When there are several different narratives which can explain a situation or phenomenon, it is important to establish and maintain the version which is to their advantage, however unlikely an objective examination of the facts might reveal it to be. Once the frame has been well established, then it becomes pretty much invulnerable, because any facts that don't fit the narrative can simply be discarded as irrelevant: the auditor who has bought the narrative will find them implausible. The important thing is to prevent the emergence of an alternative narrative; this is generally easy because of the complicity of mainstream media.

The fascinating thing is that this can apparently veer all the way into self-delusion; not so much the "creating our own reality" quote attributed to Rove (he had no regard for truth, it was the perception he was interested in) but the "TINA" of European leaders. They were clueless as to how to deal with the euro-crisis a couple of years ago; now they are absolutely not interested in discussing solutions which don't fit the frame.

They have an obvious interest in not being revealed as having been barking mad for the last two or three years, so they keep barking so long as people keep listening respectfully.
