Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

I have to say, since you brought up the topic, opposition to Trump ordering the State department to revoke Brennan's security clearance is a ridiculous affront to "democratic processes" so many claim to hold dear. The idiots should be delighted that Brennan has failed Mr Trump's real and imagined loyalty tests. One might expect Brennan to boast about this accomplishment and competence, the many ways that he saved the nation from certain destruction.

He might even cast doubt about his rivals' fitness for security clearance in any administration, although he is not a subtle speaker.

Brennan is not currently a federal employee. He is a private citizen. His chances of being hired into the federal government while Trump is in office approaches zero. What has he got to lose?

He has no, zero need-to-know claim to confidential information about federal business --foreign or domestic-- conducted by the current administration's agencies. His tenure directing the CIA has ended and he has been replaced by someone purportedly more mendacious. Inexplicably millions of citizens who are employed and who are not by the federal government and its agents rely instead on public information to ascertain federal government "policy" and activities.

For example, elected members of the odious US Congress and its "oversight" committees often have been denied security clearance required to perform their duties to audit executive agencies' activities.

His security clearance --no one's security clearance-- is automatically renewed. Nor is it hereditary. Yet. Evidently some people who have never applied or worked for the federal government don't know this. Perhaps they do and count themselves among the faction seeking unspecified term of office and political "independence" for various, unelected agency directors.

Brennan's security clearance may be reinstated when christ is elected in 2020, if he wishes to defer "retirement" from whatever it is that he does so well that renders him indispensable in the functioning of the federal government. He is 62 and has not, so far as I know, created a gofundme account to supplement his unearned and earned income paid by the The University of Texas at Austin.

US State Department | FAQ, for example. Perhaps the FBI's background investigation of own officer and special agent candiates is less more rigorous. I wouldn't know and certainly wouldn't want to speculate as to what standard may be required come 2021.

PS. That Booman discussion is not unlike a Rorschach impression from that of the CA Cohort of Petty Landlords. I dread reading these.

I admit to chortling with a side dish of schadenfreude  at people working at the FBI and CIA losing their jobs through fiat, hearsay, innuendo, and misuse of government powers.
