Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.
Just as the stupid decision by the Bush/Cheney administration to pre-empt the War in Iraq before the Afghanistan expedition had reached its goal, and was ready for pulling out the allied forces, gave the Iranians a strong foothold in Iraq.  With the stupid decision by Obama/HRC [with NATO allies UK and France] to intervene in Libya and directly going into Syria for regime change, it gave the Russians the opportunity to secure its bond with the Assad regime and maintain a stronger presence in Latakia with a naval port on the Mediterranean and an expanded military base.

Of course Israel now is facing reality as the Iranians in Syria are within close range of the its border. As a result of the conflict in Syria, the militants of Hezbollah and the Iranian Quds military have been battle hardened. The arrogance of the Netanyahu regime this past decade is a direct cause of the present stand-off with Iran, Turkey and neighbouring states. Reminds me of Israeli PM Golda Meir and the surprise attack by Egypt's Anwar Sadat in 1973.
