that initial burst of political activity that started in the US through Atrios, Billmon and then dKos and suddenly mushroomed.

There used to be 100s of sites all offering their own take on US politics. But they quickly went dark through a Darwinian process of elevating the better run sites.

It's not hard to see similar processes occur in both UK Tory politics from 20010 and then again with Labour from 2016.

But each cycle learns from previous ones that naive optimism looks silly in hindsight
