Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Thierry Breton, big biz boss and former Economy minister, nominated as French Commissioner to the EU.

He is currently CEO of Atos, a big IT company (and my boss). It gained 10% on the Paris stock exchange today.

Think about that. It implies a clear expectation of corruption on the part of EU commissioners.

Actually, if he runs true to form, his tenure as commissioner of EU industrial policy will be marked by a wave of suicides throughout European industry.

He's a "lean management" fanatic, which means squeezing employees dry and discarding them. His tenure as CEO of France Telecom resulted in an "enterprise culture" which generated a wave of suicides - luckily for him, after he left - for which his successors are currently being tried for moral harassment.
