Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Sounds like the fundamental problem was not so much the run-of-the-mill using of EU staff for domestic politics, as accepting 10k a month as a lobbyist while she was an MEP...

The vote went 82 to 29 against her...

The left and greens voted her down because of her integrity issues.
The PPE, not known for such qualms, took revenge on Macron for the presidency of parliament...

Couldn't happen to a nicer person. Now he's got to find her another job. And find a squeaky-clean commissioner.

EPP's revenge on Macron. And they were not even subtle about it.

The conservatives showed the most animosity, even aggressiveness towards the French candidate, even though on substance, the group was very close to the candidate.

The EPP tweeted, and then deleted, a message that was supposed to be kept internal, which read "Guys, we are going to kill her in the vote later but do not say until then". The communication blunder demonstrates Goulard's uphill-battle with the EPP group.

Finger-pointing and charges of betrayal follow Goulard's defeat - Politico.eu
Commission officials said it was impossible to know how long it would take to name and approve replacements for Goulard, and for the Romanian and Hungarian nominees, who were also rejected.

Officials now predict that von der Leyen and her Commission will take office during the first week of December, at the earliest.

Some smart ass even coined the term: von derlayed.
