Interesting article on why Veneto (5.6%, 607 deaths) has a far lower case mortality rate than neighbouring Lombardy (17.6%, 8656 deaths).

The main factors:

  1. Much higher rate of testing and contact tracing - almost double Lombardy's.
  2. Much lower hospitalisation rates (Veneto 20% hospitalisation, Lombardy 65%), most patients told to stay home or treated in local clinics. Hospitals are the main vectors of transmission.
  3. Greater experience and expertise in infectious diseases.

Fascinating observation going around comparing infection and death rates in comparable countries... in function of the BCG vaccination regime.

Coincidentally or not, eastern Europe is more "resistant" than the ... liberal... west...
