Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Interesting article on why Veneto (5.6%, 607 deaths) has a far lower case mortality rate than neighbouring Lombardy (17.6%, 8656 deaths).

The main factors:

  1. Much higher rate of testing and contact tracing - almost double Lombardy's.
  2. Much lower hospitalisation rates (Veneto 20% hospitalisation, Lombardy 65%), most patients told to stay home or treated in local clinics. Hospitals are the main vectors of transmission.
  3. Greater experience and expertise in infectious diseases.
