Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

The "Global deaths" figures are a trifle misleading: as I wrote yesterday, the UK figures only count the deaths in hospitals (9,875 as of yesterday), whereas the French figures do count both the deaths in hospitals (8,951) and the deaths in nursing homes (4,889), for a total just under 14,000 as of yesterday night.

Both countries have about the same population: 66 million people.

Most countries have difficulties reporting C-19 deaths outside of their hospitals: in Spain, for instance, many deaths in nursing homes are not tested post mortem, so the figures are certainly underestimated.

In France, as the media were reporting a growing "carnage" in the country's 7,000 nursing homes, the Health Ministry was "nudged" to add the figures to the hospital figures in the daily briefing presented every evening by J.Salomon, an official at the ministry; both figures are published for about a week now, but only for 5,000 homes (out of 7,000) so far.

Also, a number of people are dying at home and are not reported in either count.
