introducing the "Malaria-Endemic World", SE Asia and Oceania, excluding Africa
Now, the population of the mosquito has grown so rapidly that numerous counties in the state are trying to control the population rather than eradicate it.
A MESSAGE from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grantees investigating "impenetrable" health supplies and "a typical" sub-Saharan Anopheles mosquito's cognitive capability:"That's why the Gates Foundation's $2 billion investment in eradicating malaria includes support for high-tech approaches, such as genetically-modified 'friendly' mosquitos that don't carry [parasites that cause] malaria, and a malaria vaccine that can protect people from the disease parasites wherever they go."
But what makes these mosquitoes so much MORE TERRIFYING than others? Their preference for biting humans.
"Compared to the native mosquitoes here, they can actually be more resistant to a lot of the pesticides we put out in our yard," he said. "Our fear is that the resistance will be built up enough where it's not as effective."
