Swedish parliament backs center-right leader Ulf Kristersson as new PM | Politico |

The incoming government, which will be made up of the Moderates plus two other center-right parties, will be backed from outside by the far-right Sweden Democrats (SD) after the new coalition vowed to adopt a raft of SD proposals, including tougher criminal sentencing and tighter border controls.

Opposition leaders in Monday's debate criticized the incoming government in stark terms.

Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar compared its ideas for law and order with the creation of a "moral police." Center Party leader Annie Lööf called the new influence of SD a "paradigm shift" which had "given the keys to the government offices to a xenophobic, nationalist party."

Translation:
We do not want to participate in letting through the government where the Sweden Democrats are the dominant force. The Center Party therefore votes no in today's prime ministerial vote. (3/3)
