S&P Global, Platts launches LDPE bales daily spot assessments for Northwest Europe

Due to increasing demand for transparent information on the recycled plastics markets, Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched two daily spot assessments for post-use low density polyethylene Grade A and Grade B bales in Northwest Europe, effective Aug. 1, 2022.
Basis: Delivered duty paid, where applicable, within Northwest Europe.
Standard spot cargo size: Minimum 18 mt lots.

• Post-use LDPE Grade A Bales: 100% LDPE film sourced from distribution centers, retailers and companies, containing a minimum of 99% clear and a maximum of 1% non-clear LDPE film and label contamination. Post-use LDPE Grade A bales are suitable for reprocessing into pellets with an MFI between 0.3-1.2 grams/10 minutes tested at 190 degrees Celsius/2.16kg.
• Post-use LDPE Grade B Bales: 100% LDPE film sourced from distribution centers, retailers and companies, containing a minimum of 98% clear and a maximum of 2% non-clear LDPE film and label contamination. Post-use LDPE Grade B bales are suitable for reprocessing into pellets with an MFI [melt flow index] between 0.3-1.2 grams/10 minutes tested at 190 degrees Celsius/2.16kg.

S&P Global, Platts launches three new US recycled LDPE assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched three new daily assessments for US post-use low density polyethylene (R-LDPE) bales and recycled pellets on Aug. 1, 2022, to further expand coverage of the growing recycled plastic markets.

Basis: Free on Board, or picked-up, within the US Midwest region.
Standard spot cargo size: The assessment reflects a typical volume size of 35,000-44,000 lbs loaded on a standard 53-foot trailer.

• Post-use LDPE Grade A Bales: LDPE film sourced from distribution centers, retailers and manufacturing companies, containing a minimum of 95% clear LDPE and a maximum of 5% non-clear film, label, non-LDPE contamination.
• Post-use LDPE Grade B Bales: LDPE film bales sourced from distribution centers, retailers and manufacturing companies, containing a minimum of 80% clear LDPE and a maximum of 20% non-clear film, label, and non-LDPE contamination.
• Recycled LDPE Light Gray Pellets: Light gray colored recycled LDPE pellets derived from post-use waste, with an MFI of 0.5-1 g/10 min tested at 190 deg/2.16 kg. Pellets are non-odorless and non-food grade.
