Hypocrisy, Holocaust and Abbas

The manufactured outrage over Abbas' remarks obscures Israel's routine exploitation of the Holocaust

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas traveled to Germany, where he held a press conference with German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz.  During the event, he was asked a Gotcha question:

Asked whether as Palestinian leader he planned to apologize to Israel and Germany for the attack ahead of the 50th anniversary, Abbas responded instead by citing allegations of atrocities committed by Israel since 1947.

"If we want to go over the past, go ahead," Abbas, who was speaking Arabic, told the reporters.

"I have 50 slaughters that Israel committed in 50 Palestinian villages ... 50 massacres, 50 slaughters, 50 holocausts," he said, taking care to pronounce the final word in English.

The European Legal Support Center (ELSC) and The Rights Forum strongly condemn the decision of the Dutch government to end its funding to the Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC). This decision was made despite an external investigation that affirmed UAWC's institutional independence and cleared the organisation of the main charges levied against it by the Israeli government and its extremist allies.

UAWC is the largest agricultural development organisation in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), providing crucial training and supplies to Palestinian farmers and fisherfolk in the West Bank and Gaza.

Decision made by caretaker cabinet of Rutte III, in last days before new ministers in cabinet Rutte IV would be sworn in. Cowards.

Nevertheless, it is best for this group of states to establish a more Democratic EU-9 to further goals of original founders EEC, separate from the Bucharest Nine (B9), Visegrad-4, and Three Seas Initiative.

Labour Party conference opens tomorrow in Brighton. The issue of Trident and nuclear weapons is one of intense discussion, both on the conference floor and around the conference hall.

Last week all of us heard the tragic news of the death of Alan Mackinnon who had been a friend to many of us.

NATO has, therefore, provoked the very Russian threat it ostensibly seeks to deter. That 'threat' is already being used to ratchet up the arms race, creating a new NATO 'Spearhead' rapid reaction force and new military bases across eastern Europe. It has also been used to legitimise Britain's nuclear weapons system which is assigned to NATO. For the peace movement in Scotland and across the world, NATO and the events in Ukraine are issues that we cannot ignore. Challenging the aggressive expansion of the military alliance, the dark forces behind the Ukrainian coup and the one-sided media narrative that goes with it will be essential if we are to explain and counter this new threat to world peace.
