Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

C-SPAN | White House Daily Briefing with Jake "The Snake" Sullivan, 30 Sep
Q1:[@11:22] Ukraine is seeking acelerated membership in NATO. Is that something that is possible or something you would seriously consider?
SULLIVAN: The United States has been clear for decades that we support an open door policy for NATO, any decision on NATO membership is between the thirty allies and the countries aspiring to join. Right now, our view is that the best way for us to support Ukraine is through practical, on-the-ground support in Ukraine and the process in Brussels should be taken up at a different time.
minval.az | "'Now we cannot accept Ukraine into NATO, this decision is made through a meeting of 30 partner countries,' he added. In addition, Stoltenberg noted that NATO would not advise Ukraine to reduce combat activity in order to avoid escalation."
Q2.1: Thanks, Jake. In his speech this morning the president called the Nord Stream pipeline attack, quote, a deliberate act of sabotage [unquote], and he said now the Russians are pumping out misinformation and lies about it. Should we take that to mean, the US now believes Russia was likely responsible for the act of sabotage?
SULLIVAN: Well, first, Russia has done what it frequently does: When it is responsible for something which is make accusations that it was really someone else who did it. We've seen this repeatedly over time. But the president was also clear today that there is more work to do on the investigation before the United State government is prepared to make an attribution in this case. One of the practical reasons for that is, because gas is emanating from these pipelines, the Danish authorities and other authorities involved can't actually get down to the source of the leak to do forensics on what appears to be an explosion. So we will have to wait until a combination of physical inspection, intelligence gathering, and consultation with our allies can make a definitive determination. But what we can say uniquivocally is, the suggestion Russia has made about the United States and other countries are flat out false. Russia knows they're false, but, of course, this is part of their playbook.
Readovka: "The Nord Stream operator plans to fix leaks on the gas pipeline by Monday, October 3. According to a company representative, it is impossible to draw unambiguous conclusions about the timing before experts assess the scale of the consequences, writes Reuters."
Q2.2: But how many countries are even capable of carrying out the kind of attack we saw with hundreds of kilograms of explosives two hundred fifty feet below the surface of the sea?
SULLIVAN: Not many. And I think this is obviously an act of sabotage that took place. We believe in the neighborhood of seventy to eighty meters, two hundred thirty to two hundred seventy feet under the ocean. You know, that takes some degree of sophistication. I dont't want to get ahead of myself....
Look, this is not a Snowden kind of thing. I think what he did was wrong. He went too far. He gave away too much. Unlike Snowden who was a contractor, I was in NSA. I believe in the agency. So what I'm willing to give you will be limited, but we're talking because everyone is getting the story wrong, and we have to get it right. We have to understand these new weapons. The stakes are too high. We did stuxnet. It's a fact. You know, we came so fucking close to disaster, and we're still on the edge. It was a huge, multinational, interagency operation. In the US, it was CIA, NSA, and the military Cyber Command. From Britain we used raw intel out of GCHQ. But the main partner was Israel. Over there Mossad ran the show, and the technical work was done by Unit 8200. Israel is really the key to the story.

Inside The Rock, we were furious. The Israelis took our code, the delivery system, and changed it. Then, on their own, without our agreement, they just fucking launched it. 2010. Around the same time they started killing Iranian scientists. Then, they fucked up the code. Instead of hiding, the code started shutting down computers. So naturally people noticed. Because they were in a hurry, they opened Pandora's box. They let it out, then it spread all over the world.
