His arguments in support of Palestinian rights have always been well reasoned and passionate. I recently watched a film about his work in which he was interviewed about his life in Israel and the roots of his political beliefs.

I discovered that this brilliant speaker at my local CLP was born in Tel Aviv in 1936 and was 12 during the 1948 Nakba.

He was instrumental in setting up Matzpen (compass), an early Marxist organisation in Israel, which defended the Palestinians' right to a homeland.

It is very disturbing that someone like the professor can simply be "disappeared" from the Labour Party for no justifiable reason.

Not to be totally dismissive of the protestors in the streets, but I really do find that their chants to respect "democracy" fall on deaf ears considering that 95% of them support the Apartheid regime that subjects nearly half of the population to oppression due to their ethnicity and race. The only reason they are so indignant on this "judicial reform" is because it would rip the mask off on how Israel really is, not how they fantasize it to be. A "democracy" for some is a democracy for none. Until the fight for democracy extends to the Palestinian people, my sympathies here are non-existent.

I also think the security establishment's attempts to intervene here rest solely on their concerns about Iran and Hamas/Lion's Den. A fractured and divided country (the fears of a "civil war" are extremely exaggerated) makes it impossible for them to further repress any future Palestinian uprising and to illegally orchestrate an attack on Iran's nuclear program. The longer this crisis continues, the less likely we will see dangerous actions by the army that could flare up into a Third Intifada, a war against Iran, or both. A coup d'état by the IDF would eliminate Netanyahu, but the backlash to it would make those war aims even less likely, since the only thing that will inflame the nation more than these protests is an outright elimination of their "democracy" by a group that the people in the streets naively believe are on their side. So it's almost better that the crisis continues, considering what the alternative is.

Curiously in all of this is the lack of commentary from Iranian leaders. They've been very chatty lately about the unrest in France over the pension age increase, but totally silent on these protests against Netanyahu's government. Perhaps they feel that adding their commentary would make things worse or blow up in their face somehow. The protestors are lucky that they aren't as conniving as many in AIPAC circles would like them to believe. A shrewd move on their end would be to use their intermediaries like Qatar and Bahrain to offer up a deal to Netanyahu to assist in saving him from being deposed in exchange for a commitment to let them develop nuclear weapons without interference. I wouldn't put it past Bibi to take them up on the offer. He's made slimy deals with Hamas in the past. At the end of the day, he looks out for numero uno more than anyone else.

While there were many culprits in the maintenance of society's antipathy toward homosexuals, the DSM played a major role. The designation of homosexuals as mentally ill implied that their condition was subject to treatment or possibly a cure. A cottage industry grew up around the DSM's diagnosis and the promise of a "cure." Various methods of treatment were devised, and their popularity seems to have varied by city. In New York, the cure was electric shock therapy. When Allen Ginsberg was arrested on an unrelated charge, he denied his homosexuality, recognizing what could result from that admission. In Pennsylvania, the cure was mental institutionalization. In California, it was a lobotomy at Atascadero State Hospital.

There were other culprits. Pursuant to Eisenhower's Executive Order and during the "Lavender Scare" in the 1950s, over 5,000 federal employees, many at the State Department, were fired on the suspicion that they were gay. This had a chilling effect on other areas of employment.

Most important motive of Netanyahu is survival to stay out of jail. He is a smart political animal who got free reigns during the Trump/Pompeo/Kushner years and the signing of the Abraham Accords. Building new settlements with the "Trump Heights" as his big prize. Ordinary citizens and Palestinians suffer. What is his end game? Does he believe he can push all Palestinians out of the PoT?

Most worrisome for America and Joe Biden is the loss of the Middle East to Russia and especially China. Both Iran previously and Saudi Arabia yesterday under leadership of King Salman, agreed to join the SCO partnership with Russia, China, India and Central Asian nations. President Lula of Brazil will give more support to BRICS. The loss of Afghanistan set a major shift of allegiances in motion. No one speaks about the NATO alliance of Israel with Arab states anymore. The only link of Israel is friendly relations with the UAE due to intelligence cooperation Pegasus, DarkMatter and BlackCube. A New Age of hybrid-warfare: how Internet mercenaries do battle.

America and U.S. Congress will forever support Israel militarily and with yearly funds ... that will not change IMO. The blitzkrieg of Biden across Europe in the second half of 2022 was a lifesaver for the Atlantic Alliance.

Biden, normally a stout pro-Israel politician who boasts of his long and strong relationship with Netanyahu, was himself reading the political tea leaves.  Precisely amidst this crisis in Israel-US relations, Gallup released a poll concerning the comparative American support for Israel and Palestine. It offered the shocking news that for the first time ever, more Democrats sympathized with Palestine than Israel.

Despite Biden's ironclad commitment to the Israel Lobby agenda over many decades, he understood the political ground is shifting.  If he didn't adapt to this change, it would put him out of touch with the rest of the Party.  In fact, progressive Congressional Democrats just released a letter (full text here) denouncing the Israeli coup:

"It was heartening to see President Biden state that 'They [the Israeli government] cannot continue down this road.' I believe these two threats are deeply connected: as long as the violation of Palestinian rights is permitted, the democratic and human rights of everyone in the region will remain in danger...

We call on your administration to ensure that all future foreign assistance to Israel, including weapons and equipment, is not used in support of gross violations of human rights, including by strengthening end-use monitoring and financial tracking. The Israeli leader responded with several tweets which, on the one hand, ignored the scolding he'd endured; and on the other hand were defiant, telling Biden mind his own business. As Haaretz noted, Netanyahu offered one tweet to the American audience and another to his far-right audience. The tweets, in effect, contradicted each other. But he assumed that each party would read the tweet they wanted and ignore the other. It seems a strange way of doing politics. But there is much in Israeli politics that follows such a strange trajectory.

Dershowitz, for decades a Harvard law professor, is one of the most prominent pro-Israel propagandists in the United States. He has a long record of justifying attacks on Palestinians, including accusing them of using their children as "human shields" so they can be killed in order to embarrass Israel.

Dershowitz has attacked President Barack Obama for refusing to veto a December 2016 UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel's settlements in the occupied West Bank.

We have taken every step towards a one-state, except for annexation-"The bride is there, the dress is on, we just need to put a ring on the finger." We need to show people how a one-state solution is feasible, more peaceful, and more secure than two states.

The phraseology of the dilemma "to remain democratic and Jewish" in a one-state solution is problematic. First off, remaining democratic and Jewish in a one-state solution is not a problem. Additionally, they are two important values, but they are not and cannot be equal. The democratic aspect has to sometimes yield to the Jewish character of the state. Democracy is good but not penultimate.

Temple 'Taliban' leader arrested, offering to pay for Passover animal sacrifice at Haram al Sharif (Temple Mount)

Each year, a related group called "Returning to the Mount" (slogan: "he who rules the Mount-rules the land [of Israel]) holds a "contest" with cash prizes to anyone who enters Haram al-Sharif illegally and is arrested by Israeli police.  But that's just the lowest rung of prizes.  If you are arrested carrying a lamb and a kid for slaughter (remember that animal sacrifice), you win a larger prize.  And if you carry those sacrificial lambs (so to speak) and are arrested with them on the "Temple Mount," then you win more money.  But the richest prize of all goes to the one who not only carries those animals to the sacred sanctum, but actually performs the ritual sacrifice there.  This Jewish Prince of Darkness takes home $5,000!  Not to mention the distinction of inciting religious war between Jew and Muslim the likes of which the world has never seen.

Earlier today, Israeli police arrested the "brains" behind this outfit, Raphael Morris, on suspicion of `planning to disrupt public order.'  By which I assume they meant, planning to cause World War III.  His young son was in the vehicle with him.  They live in an illegal West Bank settlement.  The report did not indicate whether there were lambs and kids with them. Police had an order to search his home as well. Presumably, they're searching for those long lost lambs.
