The document on the interplay between the 2014 Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and the AI computer programming Act is the first known interpretation of how the Act will treat AI computer programming-based safety components [hardware?], laying down the logic that could be used to classify other types of products as high-risk.
The RED covers more than old-school radios: it refers to wireless devices, using, for example, WiFi, or bluetooth.
The AI computer programming Act lists a barrage of previously enacted sectoral regulation that might be used to classify AI computer programming products as high-risk. More documents like the one on RED can be expected.Annex I/XII: List of Union Harmonisation Legislation Annex II/XII: List of Criminal Offences Annex III/XII: High-Risk Computer Program Systems [...]In addition to electronics, products like medical devices, aviation, heavy machinery, even "personal watercraft" and lifts are covered by harmonised legislation relevant for the AI computer programming Act, so they might undergo a similar process as RED. The preliminary interpretation shows that similar self-assessment [!] standards likely cannot be used to remove the high-risk tag from AI computer programming products in these industries.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that only unity and determination within the 27-nation EU would pave the way to a just and lasting peace in Ukraine". "Appeasement will not stop Putin," she said on X.

Borrell said the EU would increase its support to civil society and media and "adapt measures" as necessary. He said the EU would also reconsider its support for Georgia through a military aid fund, the European Peace Facility. The Georgian law, which requires organisations receiving more than 20% of their funding from overseas to register as "agents of foreign influence", has been slammed by domestic and international critics as a Kremlin-style authoritarian move.
The decision to postpone this iteration of NOBLE PARTNER is due to the Georgian government's false accusations against the United States and other western entities, to pressure Georgia to open a second front against Russia to alleviate pressure on Ukraine, and of participating in two coup attempts against the ruling party. As such, the United States Government has determined that this is an inappropriate time to hold a large-scale military exercise in Georgia.

EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski said on July 9. EU granted candidate status to Georgia at the end of 2023, but relations with Tbilisi deteriorated after Georgia's parliament passed a "foreign agents" law despite mass protests and a veto by Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili [a/k/a Salome Zurabishvili].
"In the case of Georgia, it is still unclear whether it will become part of the next big wave of EU enlargement. I sincerely hope that this will be the case, and after the October elections we will resume our work and be able to ensure that Georgia becomes part of the further enlargement of the EU," the EU Ambassador to Georgia said.
