National polls say Biden is still in a close race with Trump after debate | NBC News - 2 hrs ago |
Three new major national polls out Sunday morning bolstered President Joe Biden's argument to remain the Democratic Party's nominee this fall after his poor debate performance last month -- while also underscoring the structural challenges his campaign has faced for months. The polls, from CBS News, Fox News and NBC News, were conducted before the apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump Saturday in Western Pennsylvania.

Window is closing for a new strategy to consolidate the electorate ... nearly 100 days before the official poll. 🥺 'Sapere aude'
A drafted letter, circulated by Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) and obtained by POLITICO, offers the first public signal from Democrats since the weekend's attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump that scores of their own members remain deeply unsettled about the future of Biden's candidacy.
The move comes three days before the Democratic National Convention rules committee is scheduled to meet, when they are expected to vote on setting up the rules and dates for a virtual roll call vote.
There also are 700 automatic "superdelegates," which include members of the House and Senate, governors, state party chairs and DNC members. They are not permitted to vote on the first ballot unless it's determined that one candidate has an absolute majority of pledged delegates.
Party leaders say the virtual roll call is necessary to avoid litigation in Ohio, which requires major parties to have a presidential nominee by 90 days from the presidential election to appear on the ballot. This year that date falls on Aug. 7.
In fact, state regulation of political parties' corporate governance is barely legal.
A more plausible explanation for convening delegates is to count which pledged delegates (and concomitant electors), allocated to Genocide Joe, are willing and able to commit to which alternate candidate, if not his "ticket". After all, the delegates' constituents may protest their choices, though litigation would be futile. Wilding v. DNC Services Corp. proved. MSM confused reporting communicates, DNC unpledged delegates (committee members) anticipate several rounds of counting. Their challenge is, rather than organized public competition for delegate votes as in conventions past, to present to the public one nominee in effigy, if you will, of public unanimity.
if the party fails to quickly unify behind a single presidential candidate, despite leaving the door open to backing a new nominee should President Biden choose to leave the race. [...] "If you go to the convention, have an ["]open process["] in the convention, It will come out the same way it came out in 1968, 1972, and 1980," Clyburn said. "When we had a contested process ballots on the floor of the convention in 1980, we lost an incumbent president, and in 1972, we carried one state, Massachusetts, and the District of Columbia," he continued. "And all of us know what happened in 1968, when we ran Lyndon Johnson out of the race with a great record Lyndon Johnson had, got rid of him over one issue, the Vietnam War. Here, we are now using one issue [first woman of color build back better NATO inflation reduction Israels] to get rid of a president, the result would be the same."

in some states if President Biden is not Democrats' presidential nominee, setting up potential [voter] ballot access conflicts if the president chooses to leave the campaign.
"Democrats have real problems, I mean, every state has their own election system. That's that's our constitutional system," Johnson said in a CNN "State of the Union" interview with Jake Tapper on Sunday. "That's the way it's done. And in some of these states, it's a real hurdle." "Joe Biden was chosen after a long, small-d democratic process by 14 million people emerging through that primary," he continued. "It will be very interesting to see if the so-called party of democracy, the Democrats, go into a backroom somewhere and switch it out and put someone else at the top of the ticket."

Some DNC pledged delegates have been receiving calls from the Biden campaign, according to multiple delegates and DNC members, with some asking if they're still planning to support Mr. Biden, and others asking if they have any questions about the convention. [...] "We're happy to work with you to make sure your voice gets heard at the next convention," an automated voicemail message for the Open the Convention hotline says.

most ignorant, litigious nation on planet REPORTS GOP eyes legal challenges as Harris assumes control of Biden's war chest, 21 July
Within hours of Biden announcing his decision, the committee tried to make the hand-off to Harris official—submitting an amended filing to the FEC changing its name to "Harris for President." [...]
"Replacing a presidential candidate and handing over his committee to someone else is unprecedented under current campaign finance law," Sean Cooksey, a Republican who is the FEC chairman, said Sunday. "It raises a host of open questions about whether it is legal, what limits apply and what contributors' rights are." Dara Lindenbaum, an FEC commissioner appointed by Biden, offered the opposite view: "The Biden for President Committee is the campaign committee for President Biden and Vice President Harris," she said. "The funds stay with her so long as she remains on the ticket." [...] In her own presidential campaign four years ago, Harris struggled to raise money and ultimately withdrew before a single vote had been cast. On Friday afternoon, she conducted a call with some of the party's top donors on Biden's behalf. But she showed up about 30 minutes late and was only available for a few minutes. The group had been summoned by tech executive Reid Hoffman, a major Democratic Party donor, and had expected to have a more interesting and informative conversation. "Basically all she said is we are going to win," one donor said. "Everyone was pissed after the call. It was a complete waste of time."
