Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

 borkitekts photos

Before turning to architecture I became amazed with a friends contact sheet while he was fussing with which pics to print while we were drinking coffee in a cafe some years ago.

The first few were from my first black and white class ending with one from my color class... well it was short notice and most of my other stuff is boxed up 6k miles away or un-digitized.

Those first few were taken with a camera whose type I've forgotten, a cheap beginner SLR maybe a Pentax or something, but a year or so later I upgraded to a N8008 which I used on the rest. I did all the processing and printing in the lab except the color film... and how I miss the smell fo those chemicals, ah!

BTW, this is also my first diary, so, hey out there!!!!!!!!

I can see the Photobucket link, but when I click on it I get a page at the W3C about web protocols.

Bizarre.

What a fantastically well-composed shot. I love the way it curves off into nothingness without actually having a vanishing point.

Hey, those are really good.

And welcome to the nut house. You don't have to be mad to post here, but as you may have noticed, it helps.

Thanks! I'll try to keep sanity, however, since we just lost an hour in Stockholm, and the sun is setting at 5 now... uhh

These are so atmospheric, I love B&W shots and these are a great example.

Couldn't have done it without you... well, I was looking at your diary as an example while I was trying to figure out how to do mine, an interesting coincidence:)

I've always wanted to develop my own photos and I have no excuse not to have done since we had a darkroom in our chemistry lab, but life has moved me onto the wonderful world of digital SLR's now.

I miss the simplicity of my practika MTL3 though. The shutter broke and it went to camera heaven 2 years ago at xmas, when I was sat on a sand dune in the Sahara desert taking pictures of the night sky.  What better way for a camera to go?

Yeah, photography is just not the same for me after learning how to do things by hand. I still think it is a bit odd that certain functions are similated like those 'sounds' a digital makes trying to pretend it is a 'normal' camera.

There is something lost in the qualities of the photo paper, printing, smell of the chemicals, and well, just the techniques of it all. Just having an image stored at such a high resolution on a negative is nice as opposed to having to keep it around on your harddrive or cd is still nice.

Interesting vintage film look. You can never quite get digital to do that. And I like the results of the long exposure in daylight technique. I'll have to try that.

Very nice, I love the look of these photos and they definitely stir something.  If we ever move, I'd love to get your permission to print a few of these to hang in my house.

Thanks Fabs! Well, I may have a few spares of some of these that I would rather send you as opposed to having them printed out digitally, besides, you probably need a Marabou refill anyway:)

For some strange reason i get all tweaky when the manual stuff goes into the digital realm. Weird, I know. Its just the grainy inkjet dots, how almost always the color or contrast gets screwed up, etc, etc... one can really tell.

Since I did all of these before digi photography made it big they're probably easily dismissed as being manipulated due to their surrealness and ultimately there is a loss of the presence/sensation of what went into the image.

Marabou...goodness, my friend acted like that stuff was going out of style.  As for the prints, I can pay you for the prints & shipping, I was just thinking that the train trestles one will be nice in a largish format with my other train photos.  I have 6 other b&w train pics that are all something like 18"x20".  And the pier one, I would like that one really big!--like centered on 2ft by 3ft. canvas.

In that case I'd have to reprint them... all are about A4/letter size, just the way I printed them so long ago.

I could always try, if you want, I think it might work, but I'd have to go back and check the film negatives. Typically 35mm gets a little grainy when you try to print in larger formats but I typically used a 100 speed film, so, it should work...
