Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

A comic's response

I don;t know if you are familiar with Ralk Koenig?
Famous gay comic in Germany - Der bewegte Mann.

Basicaly hardcore but loveable gay characters.

He has a comic strip out commenting on the controversy sourrounding the Mohammed comic strips.

here
is a link to their website.

FAZ - who comisssioned the comic - is also the only German newspaper that published one of the comics back in September last year, but as far as I know, they have not published them this time round.

Another cartoonist's take on it (works for The Economist but did this for the WaPo):

I walk the line

Mixed, but I found the 'tell the president we have found a WMD' with a soldier next to a big exploding bottle of ink perfect.

Danish flags, however, remain in demand. An enterprising shopkeeper in Gaza, Ahmed Abu Dayya, said he had ordered 100 Danish and Norwegian flags when he heard that the cartoons were being reprinted.

"I knew there would be a demand for the flags because of the angry reaction of people over the offence to the Prophet Muhammad," he said.

Angry Muslims have been setting the flags ablaze or tearing them to pieces.

So we are discussing art and comics? Let me add to this the latest trend of these new times:

Here is a pictogram from A'dam in the once oh so 'liberal'  Netherlands. It was put up by the town council to draw a new line in their arduous fight against hashish smokers.

It is now officially "verboden" (art, 2.8 lid 2 APV)to smoke hashish and offenders will have to pay a "boete" of 50 Euro. I really love the word "boete", it is so sincerely Calvinist and pays high tribute to our shared X-tian acknowledgement that we are all miserable sinners. It also fits well into our on-going struggle against the cultural 'Überfremdung' by Arabs and makes a clear statement that their hashish culture is now considered an 'overlast' or 'burden' which we will not tolerate in our neighbourhoods.

Amsterdam city council has already received 900 orders from shopkeepers who want to buy this new street sign and put it up in their streets.

Btw: Please don't look too closely at the electric wires, they look Ay-rab too. In Holland they call it: 'gedoogd'. (Until the next disco burns down and kills 200 teenagers.)
