Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

The blank spaces indicate "not going to happen for me"; the 1's indicate "I can do that"; the ?s indicate a "definite maybe", or else a "what would you like to do?".

So - comment away. I can meet twice, if some are available May but not April, or vice versa. Per Migeru, we will make choice(s) in this diary, so that preparations can be finalized.

What's the best way to convert an Excel table for use here?

do you want to use the data or is it ok as a graphic?

Excel 2003 can save as a web page ; open the resulting file with notepad, and copy/paste everything within the table tags.

In Excel:
  1. Select the bit of your spreadsheet you would like to post.
  2. File->Save As...
  3. In the drop down list at the bottom of the dialog labeled Save as type:, select Web page(*.htm; *.html)
  4. Two radio buttons will appear, Entire Workbook and Selection. Choose Selection. Name your file and save.
In Firefox (or other webbrowser):
  1. Open the file you just saved
  2. select the table
  3. If you have TribExt installed, press Ctrl+Shift+C
  4. Else, right-click, and View selection source, expand your selection to include the first <tr...> and last </tr>, be sure not to include the <tbody>,then copy with Ctrl+C
  5. Past into EuroTrib posting textbox
  6. Cleanup time! The output from TribExt may include a x: in the <td...> elements. (fixed in next version...) Remove them.
  7. If you copied from the selection source, you may have to remove some x:num="" from the <td...> elements. Also, add <table style="border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 100%;" border="1px" cellpadding="0" > and </table> tags around your table elements. If you don't want borders, set border="0px" in the <table...> tag.
  8. Preview and post!
And you get something like:

n 1 2
m 2 2

I reformatted your table using the HTML <pre> tags for pre-formatted text, which displays in single-width font and respects explicit whitespace...

I suggest saving the Excel table as "comma separated values" with "tabs" as separators and "fixed width" fields (to be padded with spaces). That will produce a text file which will be easiest to copy and paste into the <pre> block.

I'm afraid I don't have the money/time combination (esp. time.  I'm tied up most weekends) working in sync for any extra trips away from my home base for the next year.  I would come if I could, though!

Can you remind us of the location?
by Metatone (metatone [a|t] gmail (dot) com) on Mon Mar 17th, 2008 at 06:56:26 AM EST
It's Paris isn't it ?

My availability for any date remains conditional rather than absolute. There will be other calls on my time. But I'd like ot be there.

Isn't Jerome organising the proper annual bash for later in the summer ?

I believe Jérôme's bash is planned for September. Timewise, the 3rd anniversary may coincide with the Brussels meetup.

In that case I am currently free for the May date, but the April date is "to be confirmed" as getting to Paris might be a bit tight at that time for me.

If it is Paris, then all dates are at least a definite maybe I should think.

Well, with a definite preference of April, as in May I may have a better-half pressure to go on a long weekend.

One that could prove hard to fight, too ;-) Well, if it must be May, let it be Sunday -but that's probably inconvenient to anyone coming from abroad...

Sunday is best for me: Monday is a Bank Holiday in the UK.

Heh, and I am unfortunately going to be in Paris not on those weekends but on the one in between.. (18.4. - 21.4.)

I might be able to attend in May, but April is unlikely...

I certainly intend to take part in the Brussels venture. I don't think I can manage another trip till the autumn.

by Sven Triloqvist on Tue Mar 18th, 2008 at 07:44:52 AM EST
I can probably do 11th (PM) and 12th april.
2,3,4 May should be no problem.
