Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Amsterdam MeET-up - Final

by Nomad Fri May 8th, 2009 at 05:47:52 AM EST

Tomorrow there will be an ET Meet in Amsterdam! Final details and my cell number (encoded) below the fold.

Participants so far:
Nomad
dvx
In Wales
nanne
Metatone
Roguetrooper
Oui (possibly)

In the evening I've arranged a table for 7 at Proeverij 274 at around 19:00 - 19:30.

Proeverij 274 is a typical small scale restaurant, situated at Prinsengracht 274. They have vegetarian meals on the menu, don't allow smoking (as all restaurants now should in the Netherlands) and embody the Dutch concept of "gezellig".

You can reach the Proeverij with a 5 minutes walk (anti-clockwise) from the Westerkerk, or a 5 minutes walk (clockwise) from Leidse Plein. For the beer aficionados, there are plenty of pubs around as well, as it's close to the folksy Jordaan neighbourhood.

On the map below, it's situated at the very, very left. I haven't marked the place, but both Leidse Plein and Westerkerk (near the Anne Frank Huis) are marked.

If anyone has plans to visit museums, particularly the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh museum, I can recommend you be there very, very early. It gets crowded fast on the weekend and I've seen queues spiral around the building.

I'll be around in Amsterdam around noon, so I'm game to meet up around 12:30. I've never done the Heineken experience for instance... I'll be on Leidse Plein at 12:30.

My cell phone has been acting up with regard to messages - I'm bringing it to service today, but one never knows if it gets done. In the meantime, I can always be reached, but I might have some difficulty to get you a message back quickly.
UPDATE: fixed!

My cell phone number is: (now removed).

If there are any questions, leave them here. I'm a bit busy today, but I should be able to check in regularly.

I am very envious!  As one who spent three years in the Netherlands, I await an opportunity to return.  Please keep posting the Meetups, and with any luck, I'll be able to join you later in the year.

Yes, I'll be able to join the group for dinner at Proeverij 274. Another member of Booman Tribune will join me, as he is better in navigating the city of Amsterdam. His name is Chip and is more of a regular lurker than a blogger himself. He is a good friend and we have heated discussions on global political issues with cultural and philosophical insight. Looking forward to be in Amsterdam.

Is there a landmark we can all congregate at? Or will somebody be holding a flag? (Maybe InWales could wave a leek? he asked, ducking).

In front of the Burger King...? Leidse Plein doesn't really come with classy landmarks...

I'll be holding a transparant umbrella.

Thanks for organizing and the invitation. Enjoyable evening with pleasant people, the dinner was quite good and we'll keep in touch for future meet-ups. Mr. & mrs. AP will be in the Netherlands soon, perhaps we can meet in The Hague.

It was great to meet you, and Chip! The only drawback was that there was too little time to decently chat with everyone.

Looking forward to future meet-up in The Hague!

the picture to our in-house talent, In Wales.

Truth to be told, I was so caught up with everyone, I did bring a camera but entirely forgot to make pictures...
