"Sarko t'es foutu la jeunesse est dans la rue" with Photos

That was the chant of thousands of young people in today's demonstration in Paris. What made today's huge march different was the high school students shouting the title of this diary and also "Re-sis-tance, Re-sis-tance" and "On n'est pas fatigue."

When the young show up it gives the old-farts much more energy and that was amply demonstrated today. There were many calls for a general strike. If the unions keep going Sarko has backed himself into a corner by refusing to negotiate; it's possible he's overplayed his hand.

If you live in France, fill up your gas tanks and put away some food.

There were two marches in fact; I was waiting for for the one coming up Blvd. Henri 4;

It was the best "manif" that I've ever been to in France. I understand why people have been saying "if the young come out that changes everything."

estHer been marching in Fontainebleau for a week now and has twice met with the maire; but I didn't see her.

I took the apostrophe out (along with quotation marks) because I had too many characters on the header; I wanted to get "with Photos" on that line so readers would know it was a photo diary.

That's what we call 'poetic license.' ;)

That also explains the lack of punctuation. With my limited French I got the meaning, though it took a while for my poor brain to perform the error correction. But then I am illiterate in several languages. :-)

I do not know if politicians really care what public opinion is...frankly...anywhere.
They only care what their bosses want (being those with money).
Of course all that can happen to them is to lose ONE election and then they wait for another one to win and to come with same agenda.
It's hard to reverse those legislations already put in place by them so WTF they will be opposition for one mandate but they did their job...They'll sacrifice few MPs for a while.
It's a nice picture to see that people are protesting especially young people who still have ideals...but it will not change anything. Not even strikes will change anything.
Power straggles are far away from the streets...they are in back rooms where public is not allowed.
I do not know about France but here it's practically all the same...left...right...it's almost the same.
Here in QLD our ( Labour) premier is selling and privatising everything that left...people protest, Unions protest...it's not going to change anything. Once she is done with it she will go in to the history with great benefits and pension...and she knows this. But people cannot reverse what has been done. Because socialism or God forbid communism is a taboo word here I doubt that anybody who may come to power will ever think of nationalisations, confiscation or anything similar.

In France, the people, especially the young, have caused legislation to be changed, by going into the streets.

But with Sarkozy, who considers himself King Nicolas, a retreat is not likely. We're not headed into a good place because the young don't like to retreat either.
