Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Photoblog No. 166

by In Wales Sat Dec 11th, 2010 at 03:43:26 AM EST

Snowy Cardiff

This week's theme shall be "This made me think of you", photos you've taken with somebody else in mind.  Guess who that train photo was for?! We have "Photos As Usual", as usual, and "Ask the Expert" about anything you like, composition, technical things and so on.

Please try to keep to 600 pixels width and 100kb to 150kb max in file size and take a look at Wednesday Photography Blog No.2 for the technical bits on how to post.

Someone's technology automatically limits width of photos shown to 600 pixels. But it allows you to click and hold on the photos to see the larger version if the file is greater than 600 pixels in width.

Please do not click on post a comment but reply under one of the headers instead.

Wow, what striking photos! That otherwise bland painting scheme really makes the train jump out in the image. How cold was it there?

I think it was about -4 and had been below zero for a couple of days so the snow and frost didn't budge.

I trawled my photo archives, but I must admit I found that the "This made me think of you" photos I made had a rather strong tendency to be the ones I messed up most... So here are two of the least bad ones I didn't post before.

#1 -- guess who the flags made me think of:

...and here (and on the way there) I was thinking of LEP and his documentation of Paris street life:

Thanks. As usual I had the automatic focus turned off (unintentionally) thus half my photos were unusable. My old brain couldn't connect that that was the reason I was having trouble focusing ;)

As soon as I saw the first photo, I thought "that must be Gringo; only someone with a young grandchild would venture to wherever this was."  ;)

Oh yeah! Last year he (and my wife) got me to the national (freeze your tush) Christmas tree display in Washington. I swore ten years ago I'd never do that again. So last year I had to renew that old vow with more vigor.

At least this year the Bull Run light show was all from a warm car. Time to head south while we still can!

Two photos of the remnants of a shipwreck. Could make you think of a lot of things, but I was thinking of a someone who went through such an experience:
