Early Friday Photography Blog #153

by LEP Thu Aug 19th, 2010 at 12:18:59 PM EST

Here's a photo of my one year old grand daughter, Lilian, who lives in Washington and whom I haven't seen in nine months, visiting me in France.

Today's special subject will be "children" (of all ages) as well as our usual "photos as usual" and "ask the experts."

So everyone dig out your photos of your kids and grandkids etc., and show them off.

Happy posting!

My aunt Lillian's favourite word was looming. Everything in her world loomed. I caught her with a whoopee cushion once at a family party - textbook reaction. Much frivolity.

Well, I must confess to loving words, and dropping them into the right pond.

Taken on my new Xperia 10 - which I admit (the phone) is nerdish. But I'm getting used to it. This sent to gmail from the phone. Now I plan in the future to upload from the phone to Picasa.

There's a new Canon 7D in the house which I can use, so I may delay getting a new SLR for the moment.

I set out to check if I could capture the lights of landing planes, but the sensor of my camera seems to produce a lot of noise pixels on long exposures. I'm sure there must be a software workaround. Anyhow, it must have been one of those days when the wind turns and aircraft land from the opposite direction... This is the only pic I didn't delete in the end.

You're clearly a dangerous pinko commie pragmatist.

I once had a lawyer called Irving Teitelbaum. Lovely chap.  Producer also.

A Navajo loom to the left and a saxony spinning wheel

I'm not sure they had running shoes back then....

Castle spinning wheel and lots of hand dyed fiber.

You mean the one on the left?

The other one can't be Billy the Kid because Billy was not left handed. The photo that circulated of him, and powered the legend, was a print in reversal of the original. <so it says here>

All those stories are good for business!  Actually, they say he was a skinny short guy and that the reversed photograph is probably true. Much money has been spent trying to get permission to dig up his known relatives, and Billy's possible bones to compare DNA and prove his gravesite location.  Money better spent other projects in my humble opinion.

You are ignoring the Butterfly Effect of a single historical fact being established, upon the hurricanes of insight that follow it.

Although the revolver on his left side seems to be set up as a cross draw. A bit curious. Maybe he handles both with his right hand afterall.

The summer shot in my seasons series was overdue. So, as the series stands now, with prelude from last January:

January 2009:

December 2009:

April 2010:

May 2010:

August 2010:
ű

I hope the weather will be kind for the time-critical autumn shots - rain and travels prevented the capture of the flower phase in spring.

Yep, very dirty. I didn't see the Train Jaune in the station while I was there. Nor a RENFE tren.

BTW the whole station is neglected and almost crumbling. Lots of disused sidings and old sheds.

The return train was a more recent model, but it had a pantograph problem. It took us down to Ax-les-Thermes, but there we had to get on a bus that took us to Foix, where we had to wait for the next Toulouse train. Half an hour's delay, very well handled with full information from SNCF staff.
