Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

LEP is risen from the near dead at 76.

by LEP Sun Dec 9th, 2012 at 03:45:26 AM EST

Well, I exagerate a bit; but I have been dragging my ass for the last couple of years due to my kidney disease so you haven't seen me commenting here.

However, a near miracle has happened! One month ago my kidney doctor put me on a new synthetic hormone (which hormone my kidney is no longer producing thus causing anemia) and rapidly I'm feeling like kicking ass again.
I've even made plans to go the US in March, something I haven't done for two years.

So tonight, I'm celerbrating my birthday with estHer who's returned home from Montaigu for the occasion-also to wash her clothes. (Believe it or not she's almost 19 and studying to be a sound technician.)

So I hope I'll be saying hello here more often and even walking aroud Paris and shooting some photos.

Cheers, Len

Hallelujah! - afew

Truthfully, I'm kinda surprised nobody started kickin'. That's more the Texas style. Nothing like kickin' a man when he's down.

I was meditating a mail to see if you were still able to smite a keyboard. Or at least ask how you were.

Now this is such good news I've got a nonstop grin!

Keep kicking ass, Len!

Terrific news! I, too, was starting to get worried as I remembered your health was not too great those past couple of years.

Happy birthday! You really made my day...

Now that your gait has returned, we could try to have a Parisian lunch one of these days? (OK, maybe after the flu season).

by Bernard (bernard) on Sat Dec 8th, 2012 at 11:01:02 AM EST
A lunch sounds great. I've had trouble walking these last two years, but I hope that will improve.

Having suffered serious limitations on my mobility for only a few months due to back problems, now greatly improved due to therapy and exercise, I can appreciate, to some extent, how you now must feel. Obviously serious disability affects one's mood, which is likely the chief reason for your noted absence from ET. The object now is to make it to 86 with good life quality. I am only six years behind you. Lead on!

Good news. I bet there are some Americans saying "It's nothing to do with hormones, we were praying for him - you see how it works" :-)

Happy another year.

Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner - that I moved to Nice.

Those would be my friends and neighbors you are talking about, Ted.  :-)

It was because I was thinking about him when I saw the Pope.

Actually I saw the Pope on Saturday, after he had already recoverd, and the only thought on my mind was when the Pope finally come past so I can cross the street. But God moves in mysterious ways, so it probably worked.

exactly two years ago, you weren't keen on too much walking, so you didn' see much of the festival.

On this flimsy excuse, I dedicate this photo selection to you, Len : Fête de la Lumière in Lyon, last night and tonight.

This installation is people-powered. (Note for ASKOD : they aren't even being paid. Disgraceful.)

Corazon, by that Prada woman.

Hip moving pictures on the façades of the Place des Terreaux.

Japanese dolls, installation at the Hôtel de Ville.

Arty pictures projected on the facades of the west bank, and on the church of Notre Dame de Fourvière. Note the rather tacky "Merci Marie" advertising sign. But after all, it's her party.

The projections on the cathedral of Saint Jean are always good, rather kitsch this year but it works in motion.

We were nearly run down by a whole parade of bright animals.

The Célestins theatre  is another site that is always good. A painterly theme this year.

I first thought they were whales, but they look more like catfish.

Hello Len

Nice to see you are better!

Bad news though as the hormone in question is erothropeitein, aka EPO and if you win the Tour de France, you will be stripped of the title!

I am just repeating myself- sorry, I was studying and fried my brain.

It takes 120 days or so to make enough blood to replace the blood you donate when you give blood, so I assume that you have to wait at least that long to see the results.
