Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

OK, the flight wasn't arranged for me, and it was by chance that I happened by earlier this evening just as a friend dropped by with his new hot-air balloon. So there was no room for me in the nacelle, but it was impressive watching the set-up and lift-off.

Is this pancakes, my friends?

Nope. Swelling nicely...

Big bump

A look inside

It's the engine-powered fan that is blowing in air

Coming free of the ground

Shoot in some heat

Up she comes

And up

Now more heat

Almost ready

Cast off

Up,

up,

and away

Already gone

It goes up like a... hot-air balloon, I guess. Surprisingly fast, anyway.

I've never been in one but I'd love to from a photography perspective. I might freak a bit if I wasn't focussed on doing something.
