ET Paris official meetup cancelled

For those who may have missed the weekend OT, where there was some discussion of the ET Paris meetup: afew can't make it, nor can Crazy Horse and Helen can't afford it. Moreover, afew announced:

Jérôme had pencilled in that weekend, but tells me he now sees he can't make it. So it would be better to say there is no "official" ET meet-up. This shouldn't prevent those who can from organizing the festivities they wish.

Part of the point of earlier discussion which led to agreement about Paris, weekend of Oct 11th, was that some would like to get cheaper rates by booking ahead - anybody done so ? Fortunately I'd only made vague plans and no payments. All a bit sad, as I doubt if anyone will bother in the circumstances, I've given up on it.

Maybe next year we can get ourselves organised again for what have been very enjoyable weekends of OTs in the real world - even if Paris sometimes seems too good to be real.

Well, I've already booked flights for the meet-up weekend, so maybe we can see if anyone else is around the general area and arrange dinner or lunch one of the days?

Great. I guess Saturday or Sunday is best, depending on your plans. Sunday lunch probably suits me marginally better.

I'll be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sadly, there's nothing to be guaranteed for the weather: it's likely to be damp and rather cold. Just like this week, actually...

There's a very nice place that Ted Welch introduced me to just accross the street from my room in Paris. It's called Chez Frezet and is located at 181 rue Ordener in the 18th arindissement. I believe it's open on Sunday.

Ok. I verified that it's open Sunday. We can meet at 12:30. As far as I know the following will attend; the Spencers, lep, Bernard, Colman and Sam; possibly melanchthon. That makes 7. Any changes please post here.

I will be back from Chad on the 4th, and I have meetings in Paris until the 8th. So, if I find a friends' place wher I can stay, I might attend.

If you could stay on for the weekend, it might even tilt the decision for me even more toward the positive.. As of 1 Oct, it's definitely being strongly considered.

There remains the chance that we also hook up with a friend of mine who will be visiting then. He's not only a fine actor, and a tour guide historian of Paris architecture and planning... but he studied years with Marcel Marceau.

Don't know if i can swing it, but... i'm trying.

In the very unlikely case that anyone feels the slightest discomfort about the cancellation - which happened just after I booked tickets - I'll point out that my reaction was "Oh no, three days in Paris with nothing to do and no dependents!"

Not exactly devastated.

Bremen in September, now that's heaven... (Norddeutschland never does well in the change of seasons, at least as far as predictability.)

Let's be clear, Bremen (not counting Leipzig) is the coolest small city in 'Schland, much cheaper than Ham-whatever. Cool people from Berlin come here for weekends just because it's so easy here. (Not statistically proven, Ed.)

Bremen. Broke, but not sexy. Romantic, if you don't count Paris and... Cool, if you meant Kuhl. But it's the Haight Ashbury of 'Schland, and that counts for something.

Plus we have architecture...

Yes, of course, what I meant to say was "April in Paris and September in Bremen are known universally as travel goals to be met, that one might die completed, satisfied, content."

Then again, our soon-to-be address(Kollweiler) is one hour closer to Paris than Bremen. But five-and-a-half hours to Bremen is nothing to complain about, eh?

Next year (Jun/July) I hope to be in Europe and I will spend few days in Paris.Maybe you can plan your meeting around these days so that I can finally meet you guys.
Or even better , because I am going to spend few weeks in Belgrade maybe at least some of you can travel to Belgrade and we can have meetup there.Summer in Belgrade is wonderful, food is great and cheap, and there are some decent hotels there now. Think of it...all tho it's practically a year from now and anything can happen.Just an idea to think about...
