Just viewed another BBC interview from New York. An exponent of today's leadership reigning from Brussels with a mandate from present EU-27 heads of state. However did these people find such a jacka$$ ... unbelievable. 🥲

Witnessing the unraveling of Europe starting in Brussels at the NATO HQ, US Command and the political project of the EU. A deadly mix of mission and goals.

Anti-Americanism in Spain: The Weight of History | Nov. 7.- 2006 |

Dancing With the Dictator | Los Angeles Times - Jan. 4, 2004 |

A little more than 50 years ago, the United States signed a pact with Generalissimo Francisco Franco allowing U.S. military forces to use air and naval bases in Spain. The agreement was a momentous event for Spain, and its repercussions still matter. For Americans, however, the pact, though significant, was a minor moment in the Cold War. U.S. historians barely mention it. The 50th anniversary passed in September with hardly any notice in Washington.

Yet, the event should not be overlooked, especially at a time when the president proclaims his commitment to whip up democracy throughout the Middle East. The pact is a bald and astonishing example of how easily the United States can abandon a commitment to freedom -- even one for which almost 300,000 American soldiers died during World War II. What counted more in 1953 -- and probably still does -- was stability and the U.S. perception of what is best for the United States in the short term.

Spain's Josep Borrell: 'Europe is not a supermarket' | BBC News - Sept. 11, 2018 |

Spain's foreign minister Josep Borrell has told the BBC Hard Talk [Full video] that no country in Europe can accept splitting the four freedoms of the European Union - the free movement of people, goods, services, and capital.

Mr Borrell said he regrets Brexit but that Europe is a "political project" and can not be treated as a supermarket, in which Britain just chooses the fundamental freedoms it likes.

Spain: foreign relations and policy

Columbus sailed, by mistake, to America at the service of Castile, paid by Spanish bankers, in ships populated by Spanish visionaries, to be followed by conquistadors who traversed the continent for glory and for gold. It is ironic that the mineral riches extracted by American natives enslaved by Spanish colonial officials were used to finance the European wars that the Spanish monarchs needed in order to anchor the imperial presence in the old continent.

Three years ago, who would have imagined that the United States would stay neutral between Canada, our democratic neighbor and second largest trading partner, and Saudi Arabia, a monarchic, client state that treats women as third-class citizens? It's also hard to imagine that Israel's Netanyahu government would have moved to pass the recent "nation state law", which essentially codifies the second-class status of Israel's non-Jewish citizens, if Benjamin Netanyahu didn't know Trump would have his back.

All of this is not exactly a secret. As the US continues to grow further and further apart from our longtime democratic allies, the US ambassador to Germany recently made clear the Trump administration's support for rightwing extremist parties across Europe.

In addition to Trump's hostility toward democratic institutions we have a billionaire president who, in an unprecedented way, has blatantly embedded his own economic interests and those of his cronies into the policies of government.

Borrell returns: His vision for Europe | May 22, 2019 |

A conversation between Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell and José Ignacio Torreblanca ahead of the European elections

José Ignacio Torreblanca (JIT) - Is Europe in Crisis?

Josep Borrell Fontelles (JB) - Actually, that's a bit of a stereotype that's been used perhaps too often, don't you think? I am reminded of the `permanent crisis' or at least the successive crises, when we would say we were at a crossroads, we had to decide where we were going and so on. This has probably been the natural state of the process of European construction that only gets going as a result of the response to a crossroads or crisis. But now it could be argued that we're guilty of the same thing, of saying we're in a crisis like the ones of before. But perhaps this crisis is a bit different from the others in that it's a poly-crisis. Namely, it's a crisis from a multitude of perspectives. There are many factors causing a situation of uncertainty, and also an opportunity to respond to unknowns. The eurozone debt crisis -which certainly was a crisis- has been joined by the migratory crisis, the crisis produced by Brexit ... there are many factors of uncertainty.

This one reaction would disqualify him for any high office in Europe -- so full of nothingness. 😠 🇪🇸 🇪🇺

Foreign Affairs Council, 3844th meeting: doorstep by Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission | Jan. 24, 2022 |

As the US is preparing for war, Borrell has a wait and see attitude ...

But Secretary Blinken will inform us and I do not think we have to dramatise. As far as the negotiations are going on - and they are going on - ⁉️ I do not think that we have to leave Ukraine. But maybe Secretary Blinken has more information that he will share with us.

How can you ask if I could see in Berlin a reliable partner? All members of the European Union are reliable partners.

The process of deciding about sanctions is a complex one. Sanctions have to be decided by the Council at the proposal of the High Representative - that is to say, me - or a Member State. But we want to act in strong coordination with our allies, with the United States, in particular, also with Canada and the United Kingdom. For the time being, we continue building up a strong package of sanctions, but nothing concrete will be approved today because there is a process. The process is underway. Be sure that everything will be ready when needed, but we are not going to announce any concrete measures.

Moscow mishap

Bested by Lavrov, Borrell faces fury in Brussels | Politico - Feb. 2022 |

Amid calls for resignation or removal, the EU's foreign policy chief defends his difficult visit to Moscow.

Last April, Borrell was called before the European Parliament to answer allegations that his office had watered down a report on disinformation to appease China.

Last month, standing with the Turkish foreign minister in Brussels, Borrell failed to read out prepared remarks expressing concern about "rule of law and human rights." Instead, he voiced concern "about the situation in Turkey from any point of view."

....
Among diplomats and EU officials, however, there was widespread concern that Borrell's mishandling of the Moscow trip had damaged the bloc's standing and weakened its position, particularly vis-à-vis Washington, as Brussels prepared to work with the new Biden administration to reinvigorate transatlantic relations.
"He has managed to disappoint almost everyone, before it was only the Baltics and a few others who were in favor of further sanctions, now it's going to be more difficult for everybody to say no," a second EU diplomat said.

Seventy-three MEPs have so far signed a draft letter by Estonian European People's Party MEP Riho Terras saying they are "concerned about the humiliating developments" during Borrell's visit to Moscow. [Retired Gen. Riho Terras served as commander of the EDF from 2011-2018]

The list of signatories largely includes MEPs from the European People's Party and European Conservatives and Reformists groups, plus a few Renew Europe lawmakers. Terras said he plans to send the letter to von der Leyen on Monday evening, and more MEPs could sign it before then. [letter co-signed by Radoslaw Sikorski]

"The scene of Borrell smiling and staying there instead of walking off while Lavrov was saying that we are unreliable, that was humiliating," the second diplomat said.

To remove Borrell from his post would require a vote by qualified majority of the heads of state and government on the European Council, as well as von der Leyen's agreement -- neither of which seem likely. But the second diplomat predicted Borrell would find himself constrained.

"He's going to have a tighter leash, for sure on Russia," the diplomat said.

NATO Narrative: Josep Borrell How to Destroy a Country

How War In Ukraine Ends Matters, Says EU Foreign Policy Chief

BRUSSELS, April 6 (Reuters) - The European Union wants the war in Ukraine to end as soon as possible, but how that happens is important too, its chief diplomat said, calling for the bloc to send more arms to Kyiv. "We want it to end as soon as possible, but not in any way," Josep Borrell told European Parliament. "Because if we're going to have a destroyed country that has been dismembered territorially and neutralized, with millions of people in exile, and millions of people dead, then no, we don't want this war to end like this," he said.

As America goes to war, the choice will always be unilateralism ...

The Trouble with Propaganda: The Second World War, Franco's Spain, and the Origins of US Post-War Public Diplomacy

This paper explores the internecine conflict that characterised and undermined US propaganda toward neutral Spain in the Second World War. These tensions primarily confronted those who saw US propaganda as an ideological weapon of mass persuasion in a crusade against Fascism with those who defended that US informational and cultural operations should be subservient to traditional diplomacy, and so be limited to explaining US foreign policy and advancing bilateral friendship. In addition, the article argues that the unambiguous subordination of propaganda to diplomacy that characterised US public diplomacy during the cold war was one of the lessons learnt out of the civil war that US propagandists fought over Spain between 1941 and early 1945.

My conclusion has been and has been enforced, Europe has been had by over a decade of American anti-Russia propaganda what during the Cold War amounted to brain-washing. Apparently Eastern European countries of the former Soviet bloc were an easy ratjetoe for US influence. America used the EU as a tool to expand its sphere of influence which it is falsely accusing Russia of imperial policy to expand. Mirroring evil. Western Ukraine and the strong minority of neo-Nazi's were a welcome breeding ground of evil.

Peace versus Justice: The coming European split over the war in Ukraine | ECFR |

  • ECFR's research shows that, while Europeans feel great solidarity with Ukraine and support sanctions against Russia, they are split about the long-term goals. They divide between a "Peace" camp (35 per cent of people) that wants the war to end as soon as possible, and a "Justice" camp that believes the more pressing goal is to punish Russia (22 per cent of people).

  • In all countries, apart from Poland, the "Peace" camp is larger than the "Justice" camp. European citizens worry about the cost of economic sanctions and the threat of nuclear escalation. Unless something dramatically changes, they will oppose a long and protracted war. Only in Poland, Germany, Sweden, and Finland is there substantial public support for boosting military spending.

Of course not an exact science, but may gain speed due to outbreak of war with consequences lasting 5-10 years ... or longer. NWO

Politico.eu.com | Josep Borrell warns of Catalan 'domino effect', 21 Sep intersectionality
Josep Borrell, a former president of the European Parliament who describes himself as "Catalan, Spanish[,] and European," believes that not enough people in Catalonia want independence to justify changing the constitution to allow a referendum, let alone break up Spain.

And anyway, he told POLITICO, the Catalonian independence movement is built on a myth.

"The story of a single people of Catalonia: It's not true. It doesn't exist," Borrell said in an interview.

"If it was 65 percent wanting independence, it would be a different story," said Borrell, describing the planned vote as potentially "the biggest European constitutional crisis since the fall of the Berlin Wall. !History repeats itself. Chamberlain too joined Franco and Vichy France to thwart neutrality of Andorra due to their human rights policy of protecting the rights of refugees and asylum seekers crossing borders ...

Josep Borrell claims Catalan ancestry in name only, born in a small village in the Pyrenees, La Pobla de Segur, a short distance from principality Andorra. Borrell is characterized as a "loner."

Global History -- Andorra | all Pyrenees |

The French Revolution (1789-1799) overthrew the French monarchy. The French king Louis XVI, one of co-Princes of Andorra, was executed in 1793. French revolutionists revoked the "Act-Paréage" of 1278.

In 1806 Andorrans petitioned French Emperor Napoleon I asking him to retrieve the "Act-Pareage". Napoleon agreed, noting that "Andorra is a political curiosity that needs to be preserved". France re-instated the co-princes of Andorra.

...
After 1914 Andorra began to emerge from its traditional isolation and interact with countries of Western Europe. In 1928 the Government of Spain established postal communication with Andorra and printed postal stamps with magnificent Andorran views.

France repeated this experience 3 years later. In 1929 the first big power plant was constructed.

On June 10, 1933, judicial authorities dismissed the General Council of Andorra, and the vicars of the co-Princes called for new elections. On July 17 a reform of the Andorran electoral system was carried out which resulted in the right to vote being given to all males of the country aged 25 or over. Feudal rights declined and Andorrans obtained the right of privileged usage of natural resources.

Proclamation King Boris I of Andorra

In June, 1934, Russian immigrant Boris Skosyrev named himself "count of Orange", and accompanied by several White Russian officers and assorted Russian nationals, surreptitiously entered Andorra from France. He and his followers first settled in Andorra-la-Vella and later in the nearby city of Soldeu He seized power with complete support of local citizens.

When Civil War started in Spain, Boris Skosyrev did not openly take either side. In fact, he became a "shadow" associate in the struggle of Republican forces against the Nationalists, a fascist group headed by Francisco Franco.

Boris prohibited "international observers" to control the neutral position of Andorra. This caused scathing criticism by UK PM Chamberlain, who called Boris Skosyrev "if not the agent of Moscow then the agent of Republicans or Super Activists (Dolores Ibarruri - the head of Spanish communist party) for sure".

In autumn 1941 the agents of Vichy France, backed up by the secret service of Franco, arrested the "King of Andorra Boris I" in Soldeu and sent him to the Verne concentration camp (France), where he died in 1944.

The Seeds of Violence. The Brutalization of an East European Region, 1917-1921

The local population had become accustomed to violence and terror and learned how to practice them in their own interests. A viscous circle was born: not infrequently, yesterday's victims became victimizers the next morning or waited for an opportunity to appear, and when it did, struck twice as hard as did the perpetrators. An escalation of violence was stopped to some extent after 1921 when the Polish-Soviet war ended but, but in the 1930s, the East Europeans were confronted with terror and violence again, and when World War II started, savagery erupted. The region where this process started was especially conspicuous is located between the rivers Dnieper and Western Dvina to the East, the River Bug and the Carpathian mountains to the West, the Baltic Sea to the North and the Black Sea to the South.

Sends letter as reminder of Zelensky's election campaign promises ... don't prolong the war and number of deaths and casualties. STOP the war ☮️

An Open letter to Mrs Olena Zelenska from Roger Waters

Dear Mrs Zelenska,

My heart bleeds for you and all the Ukrainian and Russian families, devastated by the terrible war in Ukraine. I'm in Kansas City, USA. Iread an article on BBC News apparently taken from an interview you have already recorded for a program called Sunday with Laura Kuenssburg which broadcasted on the BBC on September 4th.

BBC News quotes you as saying that if support for Ukraine is strong the crisis will be shorter. Hmmm? I guess that might depend on what you mean by "support for Ukraine?" If by "support for Ukraine," you mean the West continuing to supply arms to the Kiev government's armies, I fear you may be tragically mistaken. Throwing fuel, in the form of armaments, into a firefight, has never worked to shorten a war in the past, and it won't work now

[....]

If I'm wrong, please help me to understand how?

If I'm not wrong, please help me in my honest endeavors to persuade our leaders to stop the slaughter, the slaughter which serves only the interests of the ruling classes and extreme nationalists both here in the West, and in your beautiful country, at the expense of the rest of us ordinary people both here in the West, and in the Ukraine, and in fact ordinary people everywhere all over the world.

Might it not be better to demand the implementation of your husband's election promises and put an end to this deadly war?

Love,
Roger Waters

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Olena forbade rent their villa in the Italian commune of Forte dei Marmi to the Russians. Claudio Salvini, real estate agent of Forte dei Marmi Villas, reported this to the Italian newspaper La Stampa.

"We have a warrant from the owner that categorically prohibits us from doing so. We can rent it to anyone of a different nationality: Europeans, Americans and others," he commented.

We are talking about the villa of Vittoria Apuana in the Tuscany region. Salvini said the property is owned by a company in Cyprus owned by Olena Zelenska. Journalists write that for several days on the coast of Versilia (part of Tuscany) there were rumors about the rental of the Russian couple of Vittoria Apuana villa in Forte dei Marmi.

Best sell the property now after rightwing fascists led by Giorgia Meloni gained power in Italy and showed some fancy for Russia and Putin.

Pandora Papers Reveal Offshore Holdings of Ukrainian President and his Inner Circle | OCCRP - Oct. 3, 2021 |

The documents show that Zelensky and his partners in a television production company, Kvartal 95, set up a network of offshore firms dating back to at least 2012, the year the company began making regular content for TV stations owned by Ihor Kolomoisky, an oligarch dogged by allegations of multi-billion-dollar fraud. The offshores were also used by Zelensky associates to purchase and own three prime properties in the center of London.

The documents also show that just before he was elected, he gifted his stake in a key offshore company, the British Virgin Islands-registered Maltex Multicapital Corp., to his business partner -- soon to be his top presidential aide. And in spite of giving up his shares, the documents show that an arrangement was soon made that would allow the offshore to keep paying dividends to a company that now belongs to his wife.

A comedian and actor who had been famous since the 2000s, Zelensky began his political rise a few years after taking on a starring role in the political satire "Servant of the People," which began airing on the oligarch's network in 2015. The show starred Zelensky as a humble history teacher whose anti-corruption rant in class is filmed by a student, goes viral online, and wins him national office.

In a case of life imitating art, Zelensky ended up winning the real-world Ukrainian presidency just three-and-a-half years after the show's launch, with more than 73 percent of the vote.

Zelensky capitalized on widespread public anger at corruption, but his 2019 campaign was dogged by doubts over his anti-graft bona fides, given that his campaign was boosted by media belonging to Kolomoisky -- who is accused of stealing $5.5 billion from his own bank and funneling it offshore in concert with his partner, Hennadiy Boholiubov.

Commission head Ursula von der Leyen, had warned that Brussels had "tools" to deal with errant member states.

"My approach is that whatever democratic government is willing to work with us, we're working together," she said.

'Benefit of the doubt'

Italy has huge amounts of EU money on the line. It is awaiting nearly €200 billion in EU cash and loans as part of the country's massive share of the bloc's coronavirus recovery stimulus package.

In order to secure each instalment, the government must deliver on a long list of commitments to reform and cut back spending made by previous administrations.
"To do without the billions from the recovery plan would be suicidal," said Sébastien Maillard, director of the Jacques Delors institute.

What's So Bad About Thatcherism and Reaganomics?

The British pound fell to an all-time low against the US dollar early Monday after Treasury chief Kwasi Kwarteng pledged a sweeping package of tax cuts, fueling concerns about the government's economic policy as the United Kingdom teeters toward recession.

British £ dipped as low as $1.0349 early on Monday but then rebounded to $1.07.

The UK government's new tax-cut plan has sparked concerns that increased public borrowing will worsen the nation's cost-of-living crisis.

EUobserver | Borrell wants a bolder, faster EU -- and scolds diplomats to get to it, 11 Oct
Most in Brussels were not keen to follow the speech of EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell on Monday (10 October) to EU ambassadors. It is very much an internal EU event.

When people started pouring over the speech on Tuesday, it turned out Borrell not only scolded his own diplomats seated around the world, he told them to be bolder, faster and communicate the EU's NARRATIVE more assertively.

The former Spanish foreign minister laid out plainly some uncomfortable statements about where Europe stands and where it is headed in a multipolar world, STUCK between a competing US and [AUTHORITATIAN] China.

< wipes tears >
He said that the "messy multipolarity" is structured by the the US-China competition, which is complemented [?] by a democracy vs. AUTHORITARIAN divide as well.

Borrell said there are "a lot of AUTHORITARIAN regimes" on "our side". "There is an AUTHORITARIAN trend. Sometimes, they are still wearing the ["]democracy suit["], but they are no longer [?] democracies," he added.

The 75-year-old politician called it a "perfect storm" that everyone is following the US's Federal Reserve's interest rate hike, spiralling towards a recession....

Thank you, Federica [Mogherini, Rector of the College of Europe], for these nice words. Thank you for organising this meeting.

I have to say that you look much younger.

[INCONTINENCE ALERT]
Now, three years later - three years after not being anymore the High Representative [for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy], you look much better. I am sure it is the atmosphere and the fantastic job that you have here - one of the best jobs one could imagine.

Thank you to all of you, and congratulations to all of you for having the extraordinary chance of studying here, in Bruges at the College of Europe. I am sure you are aware of how lucky you are.

Here, Bruges is a good example of the European garden. Yes, Europe is a garden. We have built a garden. Everything works. It is the best combination of political freedom, economic prosperity[,] and social cohesion that the humankind has been able to build - the three things together. And here, Bruges is maybe a good representation of beautiful things, intellectual life, wellbeing.

The rest of the world - and you know this very well, Federica - is not exactly a garden. Most of the rest of the world is a jungle, and the jungle could invade the garden. The gardeners should take care of it, but they will not protect the garden by building walls. A nice small garden surrounded by high walls in order to prevent the jungle from coming in is not going to be a solution. Because the jungle has a strong growth capacity, and the wall will never be high enough in order to protect the garden.

The gardeners have to go to the jungle. Europeans have to be much more engaged with the rest of the world. Otherwise, the rest of the world will invade us, by different ways and means. ....

The news of his volunteering to fight had prompted a Ukrainian activist and a former leader of the Ukrainian ultranationalist group Right Sector, Sergey Sternenko, to offer a $10,000 bounty for Strelkov's capture. This private bounty was then quickly raised to $100,000 after several Ukrainian public figures promised to contribute their own money to Sternenko's initiative.

Joint Declaration on EU-NATO Cooperation by the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission, and the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization

Dear President Trump:

America does not have, and will not have a better ally than Europe. Today Europeans spend on defence many times more than Russia, and as much as China. And I think you can have no doubt, Mr President, that this is an investment in common American and European defence and security. Which can't be said with confidence about Russian or Chinese spending.

I would therefore have two remarks here. First of all, dear America, appreciate your allies, after all you don't have that many. And, dear Europe, spend more on your defence, because everyone respects an ally that is well-prepared and equipped.

Money is important, but genuine solidarity is even more important. Speaking about solidarity, I want to dispel the American President's argument, which says that the US alone protects Europe against our enemies, and that the US is almost alone in this struggle.

Trump's Revival of anti-EU Sentiment in Warsaw | July 6, 2017 |

Today's Poland is run by a fascist leadership with similar appeals to its citizens as Trump has in America: nationalist and anti-immigration rhetoric or rather against asylum-seekers from outside of the EU. Poland has welcomed a flow of migrants from neighboring Ukraine which is economic woes and corruption.

The Polish Prime Minister, in a speech in the European Parliament, claimed that Poland did not have the capacity to accept any Syrian refugees, as it has already accepted one million Ukrainian refugees (Chapman 2016). However, while the migration flow has indeed increased, neither the purported volume, nor the declared character of migration has been reflected by the official data. The vast majority of Ukrainians coming to Poland seek gainful employment and are not a burden on the Polish taxpayer, but rather contribute to the country's economic growth.

Poland is at the heart of criticism for EU capital Brussels and the role of giant economic power Germany.

Poland is also the point nation for neocon's New Europe and a special role in rekindling the Cold War 2.0 from president George Bush,  Defence minister Rumsfeld, NATO's General Breedlove to Obama's State Department with HRC and Victoria Nuland-Cheney's right hand on foreign policy vs. Russia.

Franco-German Cabinet Meeting Cancelled

German government delays talks with France as discord builds

The cancellation of the next Franco-German Council of Ministers confirms differences of opinion.

The fire had been smoldering for several months. It broke out on the eve of the European Council of Thursday and Friday, October 20 and 21 in Brussels, itself expected to be stormy. Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz decided on Wednesday to postpone the next Franco-German Council of Ministers, scheduled for October 26 in Fontainebleau. This is the third time that this important bilateral meeting (initially scheduled to take place in July) has been postponed. In Berlin, they promise that it will finally take place in January 2023. In Paris, they appear less certain.

To keep up appearances, the French president and the German chancellor have scheduled a tête-à-tête in Brussels early Thursday afternoon, before meeting their European counterparts. But there is no hiding the fact: by deciding to cancel a Franco-German council of ministers 24 hours before a summit of the EU 27, Mr. Macron and Mr. Scholz could not have made it any clearer how difficult it is to overcome the issues over which Paris and Berlin disagree.
