Shortest Summary of Years of Blogging

In 1962 the stationing of Pershing ballistic missiles in Turkey were a threat to the USSR, today it's an arrogant, selfish positioning by the White House, and previous administrations, of NATO inside Ukraine that's seen as an existential threat to Russia and its sovereignty under UN Charter.

Came across two earlier diaries of mine @BooMan Tribune ...

January 2017, at the beginning of RussiaGate, PropOrNot farce and the new British dodgy dossier by MI6 agent Christopher Steele in conjunction with Andrew Wood and John McCaine, 🤥🤥🤥

From the diaries ...

I'm more astonished by the day. It's mass hysteria based on fear and multiplied by the echo chambers. There is a psychological explanation for events coming together as we witness today. The Red Menace of the sixties and the Vietnam War was quite low level compared to today. Russia is barely providing poverty level sustainability for its citizens with 90% of this great nation living in harsh conditions. As was mentioned elsewhere, it's economy is ranked lower than the state of California. Due to western provocation over the past decade, are we now living in fear of the Russian bear?

What a bs. Internet and social media are proprietary US assets and used in a global war of cheating and espionage. Played a role in the Arab uprising and a major cyberattack on the sovereignty of Iran and its people. Don't underestimate the sophistication and performance of the Russian people in theoretical sciences. Looking back on the resistance to the Nazi German invasion and the siege of Leningrad, Russians know how to persevere and survive.  There is no moral standing on how the west has aggravated Russia after 1989. Ukraine is more Russian than Prussian based on the high level of endemic corruption for all to see.

The paranoid style is not only used on the right-wing side of policies. Adam Schiff's action during 'Russiagate' applied plenty of it. The paranoid style applies to internal U.S. politics as well as to foreign policies against this or that favorite enemy of that time.

It makes the story below, which otherwise just laughable, somewhat dangerous.

The Coronation of Mystery Man Vladimir Putin - 2000 | @BooMan - May 4, 2018 |

.
Enigmatic ex-KGB man is promising a strong state

Ian Traynor in Moscow
Saturday January 1, 2000
The Guardian

In his resignation statement yesterday, Boris Yeltsin said it was time for Russia's old guard, born and bred under communist rule, to make way for a new generation of leaders. There is no doubt that he meant the 46-year-old former spy and black belt judo aficianado who is currently breaking political box office records in Russia.

"Putin is the right guy in the right place at the right time," says Andrei Biryukov, a political consultant. "The Putin phenomenon is that he and his team have created and implemented the myth of a strong and responsible leader in Russia. It's very attractive. It's what we Russians have been pining for."

But despite the masterly salesmanship, the prime minister remains an enigma. Former Soviet president, Mikhail Gorbachev, was quoted as saying:

"Putin is not as strong as he seems because his opinions are unknown. Putin is holding on thanks to his mystery - his mysterious appearance, his mysterious glance, his mysterious phrases. But sometimes it happens that a man opens his mouth and he has nothing to say."

That sums up the prime minister's enigmatic qualities, but looks premature as an assessment of his leadership ability. While Mr Putin appears shy, he is growing into his role and also sending signals to his international peers.

For their part, Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Gerhard Schröder and others are responding, eager to get to know Mr Putin better.

Abd Al-Hadi Al-Iraqi is First "High-Value Detainee" To Accept Plea Deal at Guantánamo, Could Be Freed by 2024 | June 30, 2022 |

When al-Iraqi arrived at Guantánamo over 15 years ago, the Pentagon described him as "one of al-Qaeda's most senior and most experienced operatives," although details about how he ended up at Guantánamo were rather more shady. A Pentagon spokesman, Bryan Whitman, explained that he had been transferred to DoD custody from the custody of the CIA, although he "would not say where or when al-Iraqi was captured or by whom," while a US intelligence official, "speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter," told the Associated Press that al-Iraqi had been captured in late 2006 "in an operation that involved many people in more than one country."

A month later, in an interview with Al-Jazeera, Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, a significant member of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, said that al-Iraqi had been en route to Iraq when he "was arrested in Turkey," and was then "handed over to the Americans," and it was later confirmed, in the Senate Intelligence Committee's report about the CIA torture program, that he was held for six months in CIA custody, even though, in September 2006, when 14 "high-value detainees" were transferred to Guantánamo from CIA "black sites," President Bush, who had previously denied the existence of the "black sites," declared that, as a result of these transfers, the "black sites" had all been shut down.

As was also revealed in the torture report [the Rendition Project], al-Iraqi "was consistently assessed as being cooperative" while he was in CIA custody, although "interrogators believed he was withholding information" on future operaties "and the locations of high-value targets." However, it was also revealed that, during February 2007, "CIA Headquarters discussed the possible use of `enhanced interrogation techniques' [torture] against al-Iraqi, although by the end of the month they had determined that there was `insufficient intelligence ... that [al-Iraqi] possesse[d] actionable information ... to justify the use' of EITs."

h/t Cat for the video of the debate

Norway as co-culprit in Nord Stream gas pipelines sabotage ... a bit of inward looking and critical thinking would be welcome. The invitation to Carl Bildt is dreadfully funny 🤣 🥱 of course ...

... in celebration the Holberg Prize Laureate, the Holberg Debate is held annually in December in tribute to Ludvig Holberg's Enlightenment ideals. The debate aims to engage prominent academics as well as non-academics in public debate on pressing issues of our time.

Transcript of the 2022 Holberg Debate: "Will Fear Keep Us Safe?" [02:45:00]

Today I will attempt to listen to the full debate as background to my other chores ...

In the introduction by moderator Dr. Cecilie Hellestveit setting the stage of the debate ...

Thank you so much for that kind introduction, Kjersti. Dear audience, I'm honored and delighted to have the privilege to moderate the Holberg Debate of 2022, organized by the Holberg Prize in the loveliest of cities in Norway, Bergen. But while the city is bright and cheerful, the subject of tonight's debate is far from it. It is dark and gloomy, because we live in dangerous times.

This year war on land between nations returned to continental Europe. Russia's aggressive military assault on Ukraine is a watershed, a monumental event in the history of modern Europe. And we are still struggling to gauge all the effects that this war of aggression will have for the future of Europe and the world at large.

Simultaneously other dark clouds are on the horizon. The rivalry in technological, political, economic and military terms between the giants of the world, the US and China, is gaining traction. But even when war and geopolitical rivalry is upon us and it is very clear to us who is a friend and who is a foe, public debate must take place. And the Holberg Debate this year ventures into this complex and sensitive landscape, asking whether fear will keep us safe and what do the current geopolitical crisis mean for the power of deterrence and the prospects of a new global security order.

As the journalist and grand strategist Walter Lippmann once observed, "where all think alike, no one thinks very much". On behalf of the Holberg Prize I'm therefore delighted to present to the public two distinguished speakers who do not think alike. One is a scholar of politics and one is a craftsman of politics. One is American and one is European. One is a proponent of the school of realism, the other a firm believer in liberal traditions. Our two speakers have expressed views in stark contrast to each other, notably on Russia and her war on Ukraine.

(1) In the years of preparation to and during war, the first casualty is truth. Due to years of propaganda and degenerating your "enemy" the world risks a future genocide.

The 'Evil' Mind: Part 1: Genocide and Mass Killings

After 9/11 the world has been on a steep slope of decline naming opposition groups "terrorists" and especially branding Islam as religion by the United Stères and Israel. Europe has gone along with devastating consequences we experience today. See my many writings about Islamophobia, xenophobia and McCarthyism.

Damn *%?§$ ... I'm chewing through 10 min. of Bildt's opening statement ... he got the first shot because he is speaking on European home turf ?? ⁉️ Odd ... Prof. Mearsheimer traveled a long distance and should have received the egards (respect/invite) as visiting scholar.

Bildt has been ranting about Hitler, dictatorship, invasion of Poland to destroy a state  ... suggesting the equivalent to the war in Ukraine ... as Hitler was defeated and the Nuremberg trials ensued ... I suppose Bildt is clearing the path towards total defeat of Putin and Russia ... as I had expected, CIA man Carl Bildt hits all buttons of war propaganda by the West and NATO during the past years ... I will have to move beyond this shit and listen to the rebuttal by one of my heroes John Mearsheimer.

Bildt ended his opening statement at 32:00 ... I sat through it in head-shaking horror of such a shallow mind. Indeed, an exponent of Europe's leadership today ... entering crisis upon crisis as a buoy that lost its mooring in a vast ocean, a ball of play on huge wave after wave ... a toy used by the greater military powers.

Now into the first 25 min. of John Mearsheimer's opening argument ... he is smashing the propaganda rhetoric of Bildt  .. not by a rebuttal of Nazi Germany but as a history professor lecturing on the batte between three great military powers on a global scale. Spoke about the foremost danger of a hot war in the Pacific specifically the battle for Taiwan. Further he expounded on hegemonic change in SE Asia from the US to a rising might of China. Clearly more dangerous than a threat of Russia for Europe. It took just two minutes to expose the false rhetoric by the West and Bildt about Ukraine and Putin's ambition.

More to follow ...

I paused at 58:00 min. The European moderator, asset to Scandinavia, invites Carl Bildt to view the present security situation in Europe ... a softball thrown into his lap 😂

[00:56:53] HELLESTVEIT:
Please. Now, thank you very much to both of you for very disturbing, I must say, presentations. Now, the subject of today's debate is how the geopolitical crises influence the power of deterrence and prospects for a new global security order. But let us start in Europe and then we will zoom out afterwards. And before we venture into this uncertainty of the future and even of the present, let us go to one issue where I know that your analysis and your statements, which you have repeated here, is seen as very provocative in Europe, namely the why of the Russian invasion and the Russian aggressive stance towards Ukraine. And I would invite Carl to have some initial reactions to what John has said.

Ouch ... after years of NATO indoctrination, truth telling hurts.

Carl Bildt a bit frustrated goes off script ... goes into rebuttal to John Mearsheimer's opening arguments and defends his own view of an aggressive Putin ... Mearsheimer only spend two minutes to literally destroy Bildt's NATO war narrative. The moderator invites Carl Bildt to speak about today's subject: "how the geopolitical crisis influence the power of deterrence and prospects for a new global security order".

As minister of foreign affairs, Mr. Sikorski was the Polish signatory of the Treaty of Lisbon, in 2007. Together with Carl Bildt, he launched the EU Eastern Partnership. He proposed and helped to set up the European Endowment for Democracy.

Poland's Sikorski Urges Tougher NATO Stance Against Russia | Atlantic Council - June 14, 2015 |

Two days after resigning as the Speaker of Poland's Parliament following an eavesdropping scandal, veteran Polish politician Radosław Sikorski said his country and the United States must jointly stand up to Russian President Vladimir Putin's provocations in Ukraine.

Speaking June 12 at the Atlantic Council's Wrocław Global Forum 2015, Sikorski thanked the US government for boosting its military presence in Eastern Europe in a time of great uncertainty following Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea and its current military aggression in eastern Ukraine.

Sikorski, a prominent figure in the West, studied at Oxford University and is married to Washington Post columnist Anne Applebaum. The 52-year-old politician tendered his resignation last week along with three other Polish cabinet ministers after microphones hidden in an expensive Warsaw restaurant one year ago revealed an expletive-laden conversation in which Sikorski, among other things, called Poland's ties with the United States "worthless" and said British Prime Minister David Cameron was "incompetent."

Nevertheless, former Florida Governor and Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush met with Sikorski in Warsaw following his resignation and said he was still as strong US ally who had only expressed frustration with the Obama administration.

...
Asked about the stockpiling of US weapons in Eastern Europe, Sikorski said it's "a move in the right direction," but not enough given continued Russian aggression in Ukraine.

"We need to regain President Putin's respect," he said. "We have to convince him that this time, it's for real. NATO's borders will really be defended."

Possession Crimea and Naval Base Sevastopol ... Azov Sea and the ambition of NATO
to patrol the Black Sea.

The devastating defeat of America, and its NATO Allie's sealed the fate for US control in Central Asia. Iran too is out of US sphere of influence and Iraq, Syria have been branded enemy states. Turkey was never accepted by France and most EU states, thus losing Turkey would be a mortal blow to US National Interests in the Black Sea region. The attempted coup d'état in Türkiye put the trust in NATO on hold.

Control of Central Asia, Caspian fossil fuel resources and U.S. Navy patrolling the Black Sea.

Issues for the U.S. Navy in the Black Sea Region: Country Profiles and Recommendations Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia | CNA - June 2000 |

The Russian armed forces are currently in an extremely difficult situation.... It is hard to visualizea more depressing picture. The difficult situation in the armed forces is the direct result of the general situation in Russia.
      - General (ret) Boris Gromov, Member of Russian Duma, last commander of Russian forces in Afghanistan, in 1999

In 2000, our sea power in the Baltic will be one-half that of Sweden and one-third to one-fourth that of Germany. In the Black Sea, our sea power will be one-half of that of Turkey....
      - Rear Admiral Valery Aleksin, Head Navigator of the Russian Navy, in 1997

The dissolution of Russia's economy, military establishment, and sense of purpose after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and its loss of international status, have made Moscow hypersensitive to slight. Russia feels particularly vulnerable in the Black Sea, where it views regional U.S. initiatives--including Navy engagement--as part of a pattern of activities undertaken at Russia's expense. This pattern includes NATO's expansion, past and anticipated; U.S. and Western interest in Caspian energy resources (including the recently agreed Baku-Ceyhan pipeline, which will bypass Russia to transport Caspian oil/a>); and American military reach into Kazakhstan and other parts of Central Asia through military exercises. Possible NATO membership for former Soviet republics like the Baltics or Georgia is a particular concern and, Moscow advertises, would be unacceptable. The bitterest pill remains NATO's 1999 Kosovo campaign, which Russians see as a humiliation and perhaps a precedent for Western intervention in Russia or one of the former Soviet republics.
