Syria Expendable In Joint US-Israel ME Power Schemes by Oui Sat Dec 28th, 2013 |
In the first decade of the 21st century, Israel and the US were focused on breaking Syrian influence over Lebanon. The Lebanon civil war and a decade of Israeli occupation left parts of Lebanon in shambles. Syria was asked by the UN to step in and provide security. The Syrian regime and Hezbollah became natural allies and the Saudis tried by subversion to put their hold on the Sunni minority groups in both Lebanon and Syria. The Hariri assassination in 2005 became a rallying call to oust Syria from Lebanon. It didn't stop there. At first the EU and the US (John Kerry) tried to persuade Bashar Assad to reform his authoritarian regime to allow opposition voices be heard and put in place steps for building democracy. The EU offered economic partnerships dependent on political reform. Under President George Bush and Secretary Condoleeza Rice, diplomatic steps were not an option and Syria became an enemy of the US, being an ally of Iran the next target of Israel and US war plans.
In early 2011, the so-called Arab Spring and the revolt in Homs, Syria, became an opportunity for regime change and getting rid of the inherent evil dictator Bashar Assad. Taking great pride in the "successes" of Tunisia, Libya amd Egypt, the Western colonial powers and the US united with Turkey, Jordan and the Gulf states to overthrow Assad. The miscalculation would result in a pro-longed civil/sectarian war with over 125,000 persons killed and millions of Syrians uprooted, displaced or crossing borders as refugees. The military stalemate has been reached and the devastation and destruction of Syria is unimagineable.
How hopeful I was and how badly it’s sovereignty, peace and (inter)national interests of the European Union were protected by the EU Commission.
Gaza Massacre by the Jewish State of Israel | May 16th, 2018 |
Removing the Democrats from power became a major goal for PM Netanyahu, Israel lobby groups and to undo the nuclear deal with Iran sealed by the UN Security Council. The US has become itself a pariah state within the global community of nations and spreading terror across te Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
In the next decade, Europe will need to adjust its reliance on the capital infrastructure which has it embeded in Wall Street, trade treaties and the financial banking system. A next step will be to remove the dominant US dollar currency in favor of a basket of foreign valutas. The Brexit should expediate the separation of mainland Europe with the AngloSaxon empire of pure capitalism, warmongering and policy of regime change by force as seen during the last twenty years.

Can Israel and Syria Reach Peace? Obstacles, Lessons, and Prospects | James Baker III Institute for Public Policy - March 2005 |
At the turn of the century, during late 1999 and early 2000, Israel and Syria were about to sign a peace agreement, after more than fifty years of bitter conflict, including four wars and numerous smaller clashes.
Following almost a decade of protracted negotiations with U.S. involvement, most of the bilateral disputes had been settled with mutual understanding regarding Israeli withdrawal from the Golan (Jawlan ) Heights, security arrangements, as well as diplomatic and economic relations between Syria and Israel.
Yet, in the last stage of negotiations, in March 2000, the remaining obstacle to a peace agreement was a dispute over a narrow strip of land, some 12 kilometers long and a few hundred meters wide, along the northeastern shore of Lake Tiberias (or Sea of Galilee, or Lake Kinneret).
President Hafiz Asad demanded sovereignty over this strip of land, allowing Syria direct access to the lake for fishing and swimming (and probably also giving Syria control over half the lake). This long-held position derived from Syria’s demand for a return to the June 4, 1967 line which it had occupied since the 1948 war with Israel, although the international boundary demarcated in 1923 by the British Mandatory power in Palestine and the French Mandatory power in Syria was drawn 10 meters from the lake’s northeastern shore.
The last and perhaps only US Secretary of State putting his fist on the table during talks with Israel in the aftermath of diminishing the military power and influence of Saddam Hussein after the First Gulf War.

Iraq: Handicapping the Baker Report, Part Three | Nov 26th, 2006 |
Cross-posted in Garish DKOS Orange
Given how suddenly events are changing in Iraq, it's time to wrap this short series up.
Part One raised the point that the very premise of the Baker Commission -- that Americans retain some control over events in Iraq -- was rapidly going out of date.
By the time I published Part Two the preferred scenario from work in support of the Baker Commission was egregiously unsuitable; this was demonstrated.
Today, we'll cover the less palatable possibilities. The ones that are happening right now.
