Jeremy Corbyn has been blocked by Labour's National Executive Committee (NEC) from standing as a Labour MP over his claim that issues with antisemitism in the party were exaggerated under his leadership.
The motion to prevent the former party leader contesting his seat in Islington North on behalf of Labour at the next general election was put forward by current leader Keir Starmer and passed with 22 votes to 12.
"Mr Corbyn will not be endorsed by the NEC as a candidate on behalf of the Labour party at the next general election," the committee confirmed.

Senior Labour MP Dame Margaret Hodge told PoliticsHome the NEC's decision was "inevitable".
"Given Corbyn's persistent refusal to accept the EHRC report and Starmer's determination to root out antisemitism, this is inevitable," she said.
"This is just another sign that Corbyn is yesterday's man and the party has moved on."
Mike Katz, national chair of the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM) which brought about the EHRC's investigation into the party, told PoliticsHome he is "not worried" if Corbyn chooses to run as an independent describing Labour's decision to block him as "a natural consequence".
"Corbyn isn't being traduced or maligned or picked upon. He's being forced to own the consequences of his actions," said Katz.
"I'm not worried if he runs as an independent - if lots of true believers think supporting him is more important than securing a Labour victory the country desperately needs, well that speaks volumes about their priorities. They joined with him, they can leave with him."

The controversy around alleged antisemitism in the Labour Party was unprecedented in its protracted ferocity. It contributed to Labour's electoral defeat in 2019 and tarnished the reputation of the movement that propelled Jeremy Corbyn to Party leader. The EHRC investigated these allegations and, in September 2020, delivered its report. Those groups which had spearheaded the campaign against Labour on this issue heralded the EHRC's findings as a vindication of claims that Labour under Corbyn was institutionally antisemitic. The Party directed members to accept the findings without question. Yet this ebook report shows that the EHRC's investigation did not remotely uphold the dominant public accusations against Labour, while even those limited findings it did make cannot withstand factual or legal scrutiny.
The study examines the EHRC's conclusions and finds:
- no evidence of widespread antisemitism, direct discrimination or victimisation in the Labour Party
- no evidence that Corbyn or his office were responsible for the Party's poor handling of complaints
- no evidence that Corbyn or his office sought systematically to undermine antisemitism complainants or protected those accused
- a dangerous disregard by the EHRC for the elementary democratic as well as legal principle of free speech.
Labour's new leadership has used the EHRC report as justification for an ongoing crack-down on debate within the Party. Among the dissidents stifled are Jewish members who supported and participated in the Corbyn project. The authors make recommendations for a return to the full, frequent and fearless discussion which must be the lifeblood of any democratic organization.

A prominent Israel lobbyist in the UK has claimed credit for last month's electoral defeat of the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn.
"The beast is slain," Joe Glasman delighted - Corbyn has been "slaughtered."
He rejoiced that "we defeated him" in the election. "They tried to kill us," he ranted, but "we won."
Glasman leads the "political investigations team" at the Campaign Against Antisemitism, or CAA - an influential anti-Palestinian lobby group.

A controversial anti-Semitism campaign group which spearheaded attacks on former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has been slammed by critics of the former leader over its apparent politicisation of anti-Jewish racism. Labour MP Dame Margaret Hodge and the former Labour MP for Stoke-on-Trent North and Kidsgrove, Ruth Smeeth, expressed exasperation over the apparent politicisation of anti-Semitism by the group Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA).
Both Hodge and Smeeth featured heavily during the party's anti-Semitism row under Corbyn, which many say led to his downfall. The CAA was also one of the pro-Israel groups at the heart of the row because of its fierce campaign against Corbyn. At its height in 2018, questions were being raised about its status as a charity because of its highly politicised attack on the MP for Islington North. Britain's charity regulator, the Charity Commission, stepped in to investigate the CAA's activities.
The group was formed during Israel's "Operation Protective Edge" in the summer of 2014 when over 2,000 Palestinians, including 551 children, were killed by Israeli missiles and shelling of civilian areas. It has been accused of inciting death threats against Corbyn with its campaign, which included a petition whereby the pro-Israel organisation called for the 73-year-old to be removed from his position.
