Aysenur's Death a Targeted Murder by IDF

by Oui Fri Oct 4th, 2024 at 10:43:20 AM EST

Part of the fascist regime operating from Jerusalem to oppress the Palestinian people on their land. The war must stop, end apartheid, end the illegal occupation ... live by the UN Charter, join the union of nations, end the phantasy of colonization and Eretz Yisrael. We are not living in a world 5,000 years ago. ... fossilized "religious" motives. End fascism of the Kahane terrorists.

Turkish-American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi laid to rest in Aydin

the possibility has to be considered that she was marked for death by a surveillance operation, something like Canary Mission, that tracked her from UWash Seattle to the West Bank

Ms Eygi, 26, had lived in Seattle in the US and had recently graduated from the University of Washington. She had gone to volunteer in the occupied West Bank with the International Solidarity Association a pro-Palestine volunteer group. She had visited her grandfather in Didim in early September, shortly before travelling to Jordan to cross to the West Bank.

Israeli attacks have intensified in the West Bank in recent weeks, as it carried out its biggest military operation in the Palestinian territory in decades. Almost 700 Palestinians have been killed since October 7, according to the UN, and attacks on Palestinian communities by Israeli settlers have grown more widespread.

The UN has recorded about 1,350 attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians since October 7, forcing more than 1,600 people from their homes.

Demands for action over fatal shooting

Her funeral was attended by senior Turkish officials including the ministers of interior, justice, foreign affairs, and family and social services departments who, alongside other mourners, spoke of the more than 42,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza.

Turkish American Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was shot in the head by an Israeli sniper as she protested against illegal settlements.

Senior members of the Palestine Authority (PA) escorted her body, draped in a Palestinian flag and keffiyeh, through the town before it was carried away by a Palestinian ambulance.

'Old soul'

Sam Chesneau, a co-founder and director of the Seattle-based American-Muslim organisation Wasat, of which Aysenur had been a member, described her as "an old soul, wise beyond her years, a truly caring person and profound thinker" who had "a tremendous sense of humour".

"The world mourns her because we all recognise the best potential of ourselves in her," Chesneau said.

"She reminds us to make peace with death and, rather, fear a life of apathy, of choosing safety at the expense of our beliefs and our humanity."

From Aysenur's family's home in Didum, her aunt Gulay Yeniceoglu told local media the young activist was "a very compassionate person and could not turn a blind eye to injustice".

Aysenur was killed during a peaceful protest against the illegal settlement in Eyvatar, established on Palestinian land in the West Bank in 2013.

Complicit in a gruesome war which will end with no victors, only losers. Closing in on Armageddon, from here to eternity.

Statement from President Joe Biden on Aysenur Eygi | White House - 11 Sept 2024 |

I am outraged and deeply saddened by the death of Aysenur Eygi. Aysenur was a recent U.S. college graduate. She was also an activist whose idealism led her to travel to the West Bank to peacefully protest the expansion of settlements. The shooting that led to her death is totally unacceptable.

Israel has acknowledged its responsibility for Aysenur's death, and a preliminary investigation has indicated that it was the result of a tragic error resulting from an unnecessary escalation. The U.S. government has had full access to Israel's preliminary investigation, and expects continued access as the investigation continues, so that we can have confidence in the result. [...]

Joint Statement on the U.S. - Israel Joint Economic Development Group

On September 10, officials from the United States and Israel met in Jerusalem for the 38th U.S. - Israel Joint Economic Development Group (JEDG) dialogue. The JEDG is an annual bilateral economic policy dialogue between the two countries, first held in 1985. This year's meeting took place amidst the ongoing conflict triggered by the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023 enduring occupation of Palestinian Land since 1967.

The dialogue underscored the countries' strong bilateral economic relations and laid the groundwork to further strengthen these ties.

The U.S. delegation was co-led by the Treasury Department's Assistant Secretary for International Finance Brent Neiman and the State Department's Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs Sarah Morgenthau.

The delegation also included U.S. Ambassador to Israel Jacob Lew, the Treasury Department's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Africa and the Middle East Eric Meyer, as well as other officials from the State Department, Department of the Treasury, Department of Energy, Department of Commerce, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, and the National Security Council.

I'm an American Activist. Israeli Forces Shot Me at a Peaceful Protest in the West Bank | TIME - 13 Sept 2024 |

On Friday, Aug. 9, I was shot by an Israeli soldier during a peaceful demonstration in the West Bank village of Beita.

The weekly demonstrations there began in May 2021 in response to the establishment of a newly-formed settlement called Evyatar, which the Israeli government has since legalized, as they accelerate the annexation of Palestinian land. The Israeli army fired tear gas and live rounds, forcing a few dozen of us protesters to flee and seek shelter in a nearby olive grove.

At first, I didn't realize I had been shot. I thought I had been hit by a tear gas canister and was even able to keep running for a few moments. It was when I looked down and saw the raw mass of pulsing flesh that I understood a bullet had torn through my leg.

The Palestinians around me rushed me to a nearby pickup truck that waited on a dirt road about half a mile away, and then to an ambulance. En route to the Rafidia hospital in Nablus, we were stopped three times by Israeli army vehicles and checkpoints, and arrived at the hospital about an hour later.

Legacy of the British Mandate: Eliminating The Palestinian Right to Self-Determination | 23 July 2024 |

In February 2024, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a plan for the "postwar" Gaza Strip that envisions Israel's military as unilaterally and indefinitely patrolling the enclave while an unnamed third party runs the local government. While even allies like the United States criticized this scheme, Palestine has never enjoyed autonomy as a state, and the institutions and practices of Israel's far-right government--and even of the Palestinian elite--are rooted in the settler colonialism facilitated by the British mandate, 1922-1948.

This period was the first and last time in modern history that Palestinian Arabs and Jews were administered as a single polity, albeit on radically unequal terms.

This article examines how international law was used to suppress the Palestinians and privilege the creation of a Jewish state of Israel. The legacy of this regime can be seen in the present-day thwarting of Palestinian self-determination through Israel's use of the military for civil administration, digital surveillance, and the right-wing agenda for annexation of the West Bank and perpetual war in Gaza.
