No other response possible after eight years of MAGA and loss of economic power to master United States of America ...

Croatia's ex-President calls for 'US of Europe' amid global power shifts | TRT World |

Ivo Josipović envisions a stronger, more integrated Europe with a unified foreign policy, a common army, and deeper economic ties to better compete with China and the US while addressing challenges posed by Russia.

Former Croatian President Ivo Josipović has called for the creation of a "United States of Europe," citing the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and arguing that a more unified European Union is essential to compete with global powers such as the United States and China.

Speaking at the TRT World Forum 2024 in Istanbul, Josipović outlined his vision for a stronger, more integrated Europe with a unified foreign policy, a shared military, and deeper economic ties to effectively address current challenges and secure its place on the global stage.

"The European Union and its member states together cannot perform well in competition with major global powers unless we unite," Josipović told TRT World in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the Forum. "The war in Ukraine, which is a tragedy for all, underscores the urgency for Europe to strengthen its unity, especially in matters of security and foreign policy."

The European Union needs to be revamped, become a true democracy and return to basics of economic unity and peace as its goal. Based on FDR's FOUR FREEDOMS.

Take the responsibility for Planet Earth and a just relationship with the Global South. BAN the militarization offered by the last empire of evil wars. End the colonization and offer true partnerships, not the chemical trash now dumped in the oceans and on poor nations.

The United Nations needs to be completely reformed

Speaking at the TRT World Forum, President Erdoğan said: "The United Nations needs to be completely reformed. The world cannot be left in the hands of the five permanent members. Urgent reform is required. Five permanent members and 15 non-permanent members... It will not work. It is not feasible to govern the world in this way."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the TRT World Forum in Istanbul.

"HUMANITY IS AT A TURNING POINT"

President Erdoğan stressed that the world, suffering in the grip of wars, conflicts, negligences and inequalities, is going through a crisis of conscience and leadership at the present time.

"Humanity is at a turning point. The incidents that will affect not only the next 5-10 years but also our grandchildren's future are taking place. The humanitarian crises raging in many regions, from Gaza to Ukraine, from West Africa to South Asia, demonstrate the fragility of the current world order in a starker manner at every turn. Nevertheless, it is an undeniable fact that these crises are actually a call for stronger solidarity for the common future of humanity," said President Erdoğan.

"THE WORLD CANNOT BE LEFT IN THE HANDS OF THE FIVE PERMANENT MEMBERS"

Underlining that every crisis is also an opportunity, President Erdoğan stated: "Every crisis is a window of opportunity that opens to justice, peace, calm, security and stability. For those who can interpret it correctly, every crisis has the potential to herald a new era and to be the precursor of a new beginning. This has countless examples in the history of humanity. One of the most significant outcomes of the Second World War, in which millions of people were killed, was the establishment of the United Nations, the broadest platform where all countries, big and small alike, could come together. Yet, can we continue with the United Nations as it is now? No. The United Nations needs to be completely reformed. The world cannot be left in the hands of the five permanent members. Urgent reform is required. Five permanent members and 15 non-permanent members... It will not work. It is not feasible to govern the world in this way."

President Erdoğan added: "We no longer live under the circumstances of the Second World War. The world has changed, and it continues to change. Thus, a comprehensive reform is imperative in keeping with this change. I know they will not appreciate it; but, the fate of 194 countries cannot be left to the whims of just one of the five permanent members."

"RELIABILITY OF THE GLOBAL SYSTEM, PARTICULARLY THE UNITED NATIONS, HAS BEEN TESTED IN GAZA"

Stressing that there are a large number of organizations and institutions that came into existence during and after periods of crisis to prevent the recurrence of tragedies, sufferings and grave human rights violations, President Erdoğan cited the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Criminal Court, and the Alliance of Civilizations as some of the examples, and continued: "No doubt that their existence is a valuable achievement for all human beings, for the future of humanity. However, we all know for sure that what really matters is practice, action, the efficacy of these organizations, which have tens of thousands of personnel and billions of dollars of budgets. During the Gaza crisis, we have witnessed this reality in a striking manner. In a similar fashion, the Russia-Ukraine war, about to enter its fourth year, has exposed the fragility of the rules-based international system. I would like to point out that in Gaza, not only humanitarian values but also the reliability of the global system, particularly the United Nations, has been tested. Yet, neither the humanity nor the system passed the Gaza test successfully."

"70 PERCENT OF THOSE MASSACRED IN GAZA ARE WOMEN AND CHILDREN"

Drawing attention to the painful picture marked by a massive plight and a disgrace for humanity, President Erdoğan said: "In the war to our north, nearly half a million people are estimated to have died. In Israel's attacks on Gaza, 50 thousand innocent Palestinians have been taken away from life before the very eyes of the entire world. The number of the dead in Lebanon nears 4 thousand. 70 percent of those massacred in Gaza are women and children. Over 100 thousand Gazans have been wounded in the attacks. Cities, with their entire infrastructures and superstructures, have been annihilated. In the Gaza Strip, inhabited by nearly 2.3 million people before the start of the attacks, almost no building remains standing now. Hospitals, schools, places of worship, and many more civilian areas have been hit. All the principles, norms and red lines related to the law of war and humanitarian law have been crossed, violated and trampled up on."

Underscoring that Türkiye does not categorically nurture animosity against any country or nation, nor harbors anger against anyone just because of their faith, culture or race, President Erdoğan said: "The endpoint of this humanitarian tragedy permitted due to the shame of the Holocaust is a dead end, a catastrophe. Whatever Türkiye does is for peace, justice, and regional security. Whatever we say is for all faiths to live in peace side by side, as was the case throughout our ancestry's four-century rule."

"WE HOPE THAT THE CEASEFIRE ESTABLISHED BETWEEN ISRAEL AND LEBANON WOULD BE PERMANENT"

Throughout history, the Turkish nation has always opened its doors wide to anyone who has faced oppression, whether Jewish or Christian, stressed President Erdoğan. "This nation opened its doors to the over 500 thousand Jews expelled from Spain. We opened our doors and they have since lived with us as our guests. In our mindset, we neither question the innocent's identity nor care about the oppressor's faith. I am saying it openly. We want this insanity, which has engulfed our region in bloodshed for exactly 420 days, to come to an end. In this regard, we believe that the arrest warrant the ICC issued for Netanyahu and Gallant is very important. Also, we hope that the ceasefire established the day before yesterday between Israel and Lebanon would be permanent."

Emphasizing that Türkiye stands ready to put it all on the line to stop the genocide in Gaza and pave the way for lasting peace, President Erdoğan, referring to the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, added that Türkiye will continue to support the Palestinians' just cause in a much stronger manner.

Episode 1 – An Epidemic of World Lawlessness | WWII Museum of History |

In 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt inherits a nation amidst The Great Depression, but around the world, fascist powers gain footholds. FDR begins to shape foreign policy through a series of addresses that connect the American people to the president in an unprecedented way, threading the needle between readying the nation for war and appeasing isolationists.

 Referencing the dangers the Axis powers contained and threatened humanity as a whole, the title for this week’s episode comes from FDR’s 1937 speech following reports of brutality by Japanese troops in China.

Fidan, Blinken discuss regional issues in telephone call | TRT World |

In a call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasised Türkiye's commitment to regional stability, calling for reduced tensions in Syria, a permanent ceasefire in Lebanon, and immediate humanitarian aid for Gaza.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has spoken with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on December 1, addressing key regional developments, according to sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the discussion, the situation in Syria took centre stage. Minister Fidan underscored Türkiye's opposition to any actions that could exacerbate instability in the region, emphasising the importance of reducing tensions.

He highlighted the need to finalise the political process between the Syrian regime and the opposition to ensure lasting peace and tranquility. Fidan also reiterated Türkiye's firm stance against terrorist activities targeting the country and Syrian civilians.

The conversation also touched on the fragile situation in Lebanon. Fidan called on Israel to fulfill its commitments to ensure the permanence of the ceasefire in Lebanon. Regarding Gaza, he stressed the urgency of establishing a ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.

Additionally, issues related to Ukraine and the South Caucasus were discussed, reflecting the broader agenda of Türkiye-US diplomatic engagement.

Speaking to Editor's Desk of Anadolu, Fidan says Türkiye's commitment to EU membership and collaboration remains steadfast | 19 Sept 2024 |

Fidan recalled President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's readiness to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, highlighting that discussions with the Assad regime have been ongoing in various formats, particularly through Russian and Iranian intermediaries.

Despite the stagnation in membership negotiations, he also noted that Türkiye must continue to make progress in other areas such as trade, politics, and cultural exchanges with the EU.

Fidan observed that recent geopolitical events, including the Ukraine-Russia conflict and the Gaza war, have heightened the EU's geostrategic concerns, impacting its focus on Türkiye.

"The European Union had fundamentally developed its resilience to economic issues remarkably, channeling its security and geostrategic concerns through America and relying on the protective umbrella provided by it. However, they have now realized that this is no longer sufficient, and that America's policy will not always be acceptable and embraced by their populations," he said.

"The EU is fundamentally a structure of geographic continuity, which means that Türkiye, as part of Europe geographically, looks at many areas, including the Middle East, Asia, and the Caucasus. Now, you are also part of Europe, geographically. If you had been a member of the European Union in 2008-2009, I believe the UK would not have left the EU," he added.

Fidan emphasized that if the UK and Türkiye had been members of the EU as strong actors from the East and West, the EU would not have been dragged to the Atlantic side. He noted, "Türkiye would not be subject to different gravitational forces; the EU-Türkiye relationship, meaning everyone, could have created a stronger geostrategic center in their respective places."

EU states act like far-right in their treatment of Türkiye

"European countries have acted as if they were under far-right rule in their relations with Türkiye. Therefore, if the far-right comes to power in the EU today, nothing will change for us," he said.

Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 29 May 2024

    -- the triple lock is the only legal provision that meant that a government that effectively supported the US in its invasion of Iraq, by facilitating the invasion of Iraq through its use of Shannon Airport, could not legally send ordinary Irish soldiers to go, fight and die in a war for oil and profit in the Middle East on behalf of the US;
    -- prevented by the triple lock from participating in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Fianna Fáil instead allowed US warplanes to refuel at Shannon and started a process whereby Shannon became a de facto forward operating base for the US military, so that more than 3 million troops have passed through Shannon over the past 21 years;
    -- under the United Nations (UN) Charter, there are two legal ways the Government can send troops abroad;
    -- self-defence, which is provided for under Bunreacht na hÉireann and in which situation there is no need for the triple lock to be activated; and
    -- peacekeeping authorised by the UN Security Council, therefore anything within the UN Charter comes within the triple lock; and
    -- if the triple lock is removed, it will be EU-led missions without UN approval, that is, outside of international law, and US or NATO-led missions, opening the prospects of Ireland's participation in such disastrous wars as those in Iraq and Afghanistan;
