Operation Vigilant Resolve - 1st Assault on Sunni enclave Fallujah | April 2004 |
On March 31, 2004, armed insurgents ambushed and killed four American civilian security contractors who were driving through the city of Fallujah, Iraq. Within hours of the attack, shocking images of the Americans' desecrated bodies - burned, and hung from a bridge - were broadcast around the globe.
- The United States on fabricated lies bombed and invaded Iraq in March 2003. Gulf states warned Bush an attack would open Pandora's box of slaughter. The Ba'ath party of Saddam Hussein represented a Sunni majority that ruled a vast Shia majority with religious holy sites linked to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
- The cruelties had no boundaries and the Sunni uprising in Anbar province would support the rise of the Islamic State of the Levant (ISIL) led by Abu Baghdadi to create a caliphate headquartered in Raqqa, in Syria west of the Euphrates River. The slaughter knew no boundaries and became internationalized with a call for Jihad from Afghanistan, Indonesia, Southern Philippines to the Caucasus and westward to Tunisia.
- The U.S. and allies formed an anti Islamic State alliance in the air with battlegroups on the ground in large part composed of diverse Shia militant groups with leadership from the Iranian IRCQ under command by general Qasem Soleimani. The Islamic State were defeated and erased from the western Iraq districts, and north Mosul and Kirkuk included. The Shia militias were united in the "Axis of Resistance" or Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
- On 3 January 2020, in an ambush the Trump White House murdered Soleimani and his compatriots after request to lead a mission for peace negotiations in Baghdad. On intelligence gathering for the assassination both the United Kingdom and the Jewish state of Israel were complicit.
Raw Awakening in Solingen Germany
According to the newspapers Bild and Spiegel, the suspect was Issa Al H., a 26-year-old Syrian born in Deir ez-Zor who has been living in Germany since 2022, where he has applied for asylum. The Syrian man entered the EU through Bulgaria.
Three hours before his arrest, the Islamic State (IS) organization claimed responsibility for the murderous attack that struck Solingen. "The man who attacked the Christian gathering in the town of Solingen was a soldier of the Islamic State and carried out his act to avenge Muslims in Palestine and everywhere."

Border Crossings: The Unholy Alliance Between Iran and Iraqi Militias | Carnegie MEC |
Relations between Iraq and Iran are complex and unequal. In fact, Iran exerts hegemonic control over Iraq. This hegemony was consolidated through a number of developments related to Iraq's existential conflict with the Islamic State, from 2014 until 2017: the fall of Mosul to the jihadi group; the collapse of much of the Iraqi army; and the emergence of non-state players--such as the clerical establishment in Najaf and the "Axis of Resistance" militias--as the saviors of the state in the eyes of many Iraqis.
A prime example of inequality in the Iraq-Iran relationship is the border crossings that link the two countries. The crossings, which lie along a 1,600-kilometer (994-mile) border, figure prominently in Iran's strategy to ensure its control over Iraq. This strategy requires a structurally friendly political system in Iraq, one that the Islamic Republic can permeate at all political and institutional levels. It also entails turning Iraq into a market for Iranian goods, most of which pass through border crossings under terms that are preferential to Iran and its proxies in Iraq. Rising Iraqi nationalism--increasingly defined against Iranian hegemony in Iraq--has complicated, but not derailed, Tehran's modus operandi.
Iraq, an Economic Outlet for Sanctions-hit Iran
There are nine official crossings between Iraq and Iran. They acquired increased importance in 2012, when Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, called for developing what he termed an Iranian "Economy of Resistance." The crossings became even more important in early 2014, when Iran turned the Economy of Resistance idea into state policy.
