ReAwaken America founder Clay Clark saw himself as an entrepreneur destined for greatness. When the pandemic hit, he found his new product: culture-war spectacle

The Rise of the Far Right and the Domestication of the War on Terror

ReAwaken America is a far-right and Christian nationalist movement launched in 2021 by Oklahoma entrepreneur Clay Clark.

Neocharismatic Christianity and the Rise of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) | 18 January 2021 |

When Paula White called angels from Africa and South America to wage spiritual warfare in the aftermath of the presidential election, she was tapping into the notion of territorial spirits associated with the emergence of what Peter Wagner has called the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). Wagner coined the phrase to describe a novel kind of independent charismatic Christianity led by apostles and organized into relational networks.

Many of the prophecies associated with Trump's rise and re-election came from persons associated with these networks. Some like Kris Vallotton of Bethel Church apologized while others such as Lance Wallnau doubled down. Regardless, much of the public support for Trump came from Christians connected to this new form of charismatic Christianity, even though it has largely remained unexplored by most journalists and historians.

The movement exists as a series of overlapping ministerial networks either centered in megachurches or ministries. Harvest International Ministries led by Ché Ahn is one of the most prominent examples of the former, while Generals International under Cindy Jacobs exemplifies the latter. It may be better to identify the NAR as Neocharismatic Christianity because it represents a modification of the global Pentecostal-Charismatic (P-C) movement. The NAR is a subset of independent Charismatics, the third wing in Todd Johnson's typology of the global movement.

Evangelical leader Lance Wallnau pitches Trump to followers as divinely chosen for presidency | CBS News - 4 Sept 2024 |

Lance Wallnau, a firebrand leader of the nation's growing grassroots evangelical movement, says it initially took some convincing to persuade evangelical Christians to recognize former President Donald Trump as divinely chosen to navigate these chaotic times.

"I got a lot of pushback after he got elected," Wallnau said in a rare network television interview with CBS News, "because there was searching around for how -- how could the evangelicals justify voting for some barbaric character like Trump? I said, 'Listen, give the guy some time. He doesn't know who we are, but his values resonate with our community.'"

By the look of those assembled on a recent, rainy summer day in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Wallnau appears to have succeeded.

Political good-will tour across seven key swing states

Wallnau leads the so-called "Courage Tour," a roving event that targets key battleground counties across the country with a blend of religious and political activism. The events encourage attendees not only to get out the vote (GOTV), but to sign up to be election workers and poll watchers.

'Christianizing to get rid of demons'

When Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis rephrased a Bible passage and told students at a private Christian college to "put on the full armor of God. Stand firm against the left's schemes," he was speaking to a political base of believers, she says.

His efforts fit into an idea he popularized that calls on Christians to achieve religious and political dominion. He calls it the "Seven Mountain Mandate," referring to government, family, religion, arts and entertainment, media, education and business. Once a fringe belief, it's become a popular refrain that blends religious and political messages, says Matthew Taylor, an author and religious scholar.

Wallnau is trying to recruit pro-Trump evangelicals willing to look beyond the former president's past conduct and instead focus on his views about abortion, gender issues and Israel.

Christian Dominionism: Follow the Money

I believe urgent action needs to be taken to head off the Americanisation of Australian politics at the pass. I have spent 12 years following Christian dominionism and Christian nationalism, and the last 3 months undertaking intensive research into the libertarian networks behind these movements.

Issues like prayers in parliament and chaplains in schools and the military are important. I don't want to take away from the people putting their efforts into these issues. But the matches to light these `fires' are being supplied by foreign networks. If those networks are not challenged we'll be playing "whack-a-mole" with church/state separation until the second coming of Christ.

Evangelicals and religious nationalists "Stand with Israel"

I am convinced the only thing that will succeed is for all of those affected by the cancerous political ideology I describe below: atheists, secularists, rationalists, humanists together with feminists, educators, unions, voluntary assisted dying lobbyists, advocates for women's reproductive choice, LGBTIQ+ groups, environmentalists, climate change activist, medical bodies, and more, to band together and pool our financial and intellectual resources.

Why do evangelical Christians support Israel? | Al Jazeera The Bottom Line |

In the evangelical Christian worldview, the 1948 creation of Israel was a fulfilment of Biblical prophecy and the Palestinians are either "non-existent" or "the enemies of God, because they are the enemies of the State of Israel", explains Palestinian human rights defender Jonathan Kuttab

Kuttab tells host Steve Clemons that believers of this interpretation of holy scripture do not care about international law or catastrophic war in the region.

"They say, `Bring it on. That's the End Times. That's the Second Coming. That's wonderful.'"

And if 30 percent of Americans hold these beliefs, what is the impact on US policy on Palestine and Israel?

Evangelicals and the 2020 Elections | by Jonathan Kuttab - 1 Oct 2019 |

The election of Donald Trump in 2016, with the help of a very large majority of evangelicals, seems to bring to a head a number of political trends among them that have been documented by history professor John Fea in his book Believe Me: The Evangelical Road to Donald Trump (William B. Eerdmanns Publishing Company, 2018).

The first of these trends is the politics of fear. Evangelicals were increasingly afraid of foreigners, liberals, secularists, Catholics, and Muslims. Politicians who stoked these fears and used dog whistles to communicate to evangelicals that they understood these fears and shared their concerns did well with the group. No one managed to do this as well as Trump who advocated a Muslim ban, spoke of invasions by immigrants from Latin America, and promised a wall to stem the flow of illegal immigrants whom he accused of being murderers and rapists, or "bad hombres".

His xenophobic and anti-immigrant statements even extended to existing legal immigrants, as he sought to end the immigration lottery, complained of family reunion (called it chain immigration), and undermined already agreed upon bipartisan efforts to reform the immigration system and to provide a path to citizenship for those who came to this country at a young age.

To incorporate the Jewish State of Israel into NATO, Trump prepared the switch to CENTCOM and advance the Abraham Economic Accords, implemented by president Joe Biden. The MAGA and ME policy fell flat on its face in a more hostile Middle East the world has witnessed for decades.

How a Bureaucratic Change Helped Save Israel | JINSA |

An "obscure bureaucratic change" enabled the extremely successful, coordinated defense of Israel against the recent Iranian attack. President Donald Trump's 15 Jan 2021 decision to transfer Israel to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) ensured the unprecedented Israeli-American-British-Arab [? Jordan client state] collaboration that repelled 99% of Iran's missiles and drones.

ELECTION 2024 poll smoke

axios | Exclusive poll: Gen Z is less religious, less Republican than others, 23 Jan

Why it matters: Gen Z—which includes those born between 1997 and 2012—is the most racially and ethnically diverse generation in U.S. history, and an estimated 40.8 million Gen Zers will be eligible to vote in 2024.

The big picture: The survey by the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute confirms the left-leaning beliefs of Gen Z shown by other studies. It also gives more details about their identities and religious habits that reflect broader shifts in American culture.

Former President Donald Trump speaks with Moms for Liberty co-founder Tiffany Justice during an event at the group's annual convention in Washington, DC, on August 30.

Trump knew Moms for Liberty was the perfect crowd for his hate speech. So he let it fly. | USA Today |

At some point, I wish Republicans would acknowledge the harmful things Trump says and does. The least they could do would be to admit they're fine with this kind of hate speech targeting children.

Trump questions acceptance of transgender people while at Moms for Liberty gathering

Trump entered a hotel ballroom in Washington as he does at his signature rallies, standing and soaking up applause for the entirety of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA," followed by chants of "Trump, Trump, Trump." Seated onstage with Tiffany Justice, the co-founder of Moms for Liberty, he shared some of his favorite stories that are mainstays at his rallies, bouncing from topic to topic in a style that has become familiar to his supporters.

The former president sought to shore up support and enthusiasm among a major part of his base. The bulk of Moms for Liberty's 130,000-plus members are conservatives who agree with him that parents should have more say in public education and that racial equity programs and transgender accommodations don't belong in schools.

Yet Trump also runs the risk of alienating some moderate voters, many of whom see Moms for Liberty's activism as too extreme to be legitimized by a presidential nominee.

A year ago, Moms for Liberty was viewed by many as a rising power player in conservative politics that could be pivotal in supporting the Republican ticket. The group's membership skyrocketed after its launch in 2021, fueled by parents protesting mandatory masking for students and remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

But in the last several months, a series of embarrassing scandals and underwhelming performances during local elections have called Moms for Liberty's influence into question.

The group also has voiced support for Project 2025, a detailed and controversial playbook for the next conservative presidency from which Trump has repeatedly tried to distance himself.

Moms for Liberty serves on the advisory board for Project 2025, and the author of the document's education chapter taught a "strategy session" at the group's Friday gathering.

The negative perceptions about Moms for Liberty around the country could increase the potential liability for Trump as he sits down with co-founder Justice, said University of Central Florida political science professor Aubrey Jewett.
