Trump condemns 'monstrous' attack near White House - and says suspect is Afghan national

Donald Trump has called for every Afghan national who entered the US under the Biden administration to be investigated following the shooting of two National Guard troops near the White House.

The president said the "monstrous, ambush-style attack" was carried out by an Afghan national who arrived in September 2021 during America's chaotic withdrawal from Kabul.

... to build a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Pakistan through Afghanistan.

Oil Barons Court Taliban in Texas

In February 1997, a delegation of Taliban leaders had flown to the Unocal headquarters at Sugarland, Texas, for a whirlwind of corporate hospitality. Two months later, Unocal opened a project office in Kandahar, the seat of Taliban power.

In this deceitful pipeline politics - inclusive of pleasure trips abroad by leaders of the Taliban - the competition was not restricted solely between commercial interests; the governments of regional states as well as the great powers were also dragged into what became known as the New Great Game.

As for the U.S. government, it wanted Unocal to build the oil and gas pipelines from the Central Asian states to Pakistan through Afghanistan so that the vast untapped oil and gas reserves in the Central Asian and Caspian regions could be transported to markets in South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Far East and the Pacific.

Embedded With Special Forces in Afghanistan | Black Rifle Coffee Company |

Coffee or Die Magazine's Marty Skovlund Jr. was given exclusive access to embed with a Special Forces team in the mountains of Afghanistan, and accompany them on a combat mission into ISIS-held territory. [Location Nangarhar Valley]

These Green Beret's fit the common tropes associated with Special Forces: beards, long-ish hair, and relaxed attitudes along with a few sleeve tattoos sprinkled in for good measure.

Although they sport ball caps and Glocks in lieu of cowboy hats and six-shooters, they are frontiersman all the same -- charged with taming the Mohmand Valley.

The team operates out of COP Blackfish, an isolated outpost in the Mohmand Valley and only a short walk from where the controversial "MOAB" was dropped last year.

Suspect in Washington DC national guard shooting had ties to CIA, agency confirms | The Guardian |

Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, worked with agency-backed military units during US war in Afghanistan

The suspected shooter of two national guard members in Washington DC on Wednesday worked with CIA-backed military units during the US war in Afghanistan, the agency has confirmed.

The alleged gunman, identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, came to the US in September 2021 under an Operation Allies Welcome program that gave some Afghans who had worked for the US government entry visas to the US.

Lakanwal's ties to the Central Intelligence Agency, which worked alongside US special forces in Afghanistan, were confirmed by the CIA director, John Ratcliffe, to media outlets on Wednesday evening.

The New York Times reported that the shooting suspect had worked for several US government agencies in Afghanistan, including a CIA-backed unit in the southern province of Kandahar, a stronghold of the Taliban.

I watched Henry Waxman's hearings today on Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch | by Martin Longman - 24 April 2007 |

In a transcript of his interview with Brig. Gen. Gary Jones during a November 2004 investigation, Lt. Col. Ralph Kauzlarich said he'd learned Kevin Tillman, Pat's brother and fellow Army Ranger who was a part of the battle the night Pat Tillman died, objected to the presence of a chaplain and the saying of prayers during a repatriation ceremony in Germany before his brother's body was returned to the United States.

Kauzlarich, now a battalion commanding officer at Fort Riley in Kansas, further suggested the Tillman family's unhappiness with the findings of past investigations might be because of the absence of a Christian faith in their lives.

In an interview with ESPN.com, Kauzlarich said: "When you die, I mean, there is supposedly a better life, right? Well, if you are an atheist and you don't believe in anything, if you die, what is there to go to? Nothing. You are worm dirt. So for their son to die for nothing, and now he is no more -- that is pretty hard to get your head around that. So I don't know how an atheist thinks. I can only imagine that that would be pretty tough."

Christian dying on the Afghan battlefield have a pass for heaven?? WTF ... idiocy unlimited.

What were the Afghan "Zero Units" that sources say the National Guard shooting suspect worked for? | CBS News |

An image of an ID badge circulating widely online that shows the suspect in the shooting of the National Guard members says he was assigned to the "Kandahar Strike Force" or "03" unit, one of a number of so-called "Zero Units" that worked closely with U.S. and other foreign forces during the war in Afghanistan. A former senior Afghan military source confirmed to CBS News that the ID badge is authentic.

A U.S. official briefed on the shooting investigation and a former senior Afghan National Defense and Security Forces member told CBS News that the suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, had been part of a "Zero Unit," an Afghan intelligence unit and paramilitary force that worked with the CIA. The units were exclusively composed of Afghan nationals and operated under the umbrella of the National Directorate of Security, or NDS, the intelligence agency established with CIA backing for Afghanistan's previous, U.S.-backed government. They were considered by the U.S. and its international partners to be among the most trusted domestic forces in Afghanistan.

Those units are often labeled "death squads" by human rights groups. The units were known in Afghanistan for their secrecy and alleged brutality, and members were implicated in numerous extrajudicial killings of civilians, particularly during night raids.

The U.S. official briefed on the investigation confirmed the suspect had been disturbed by the casualties in this unit and, more recently, deeply troubled by the killing of his close friend overseas.

The image of the ID badge also carries the words "Firebase Gecko," which was the name of a base used by the CIA and special forces in Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan, inside what was previously the compound of the Taliban's founding leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar.

Afghans who fought in secret CIA-trained force face legal uncertainty in the U.S. | NBC News - 29 Aug 2023 |

Fighters from the "Zero Units" got work permits when they escaped to the U.S. Those permits expire soon, and now some fighters worry their CIA pasts might be working against them.

About 10,000 to 12,000 members of the Afghan National Strike Unit, a clandestine force known as the "Zero Units," were evacuated from Afghanistan when the U.S. military withdrew from the country in August 2021.

Night Raids: Victims of CIA-Backed Afghan Death Squads Known as "Zero Units" Demand Accountability

We speak with journalist Lynzy Billing, whose investigation for ProPublica details how CIA-backed death squads, known as Zero Units, have yet to be held accountable for killing hundreds of civilians during the U.S. War in Afghanistan. The Afghan units, which were routinely accompanied by U.S. soldiers, became feared throughout rural Afghanistan for their brutal night raids, often descending upon villagers from helicopters and carrying out summary executions before disappearing.

Families of victims continue to demand answers, but since the operations were directed by the CIA rather than the military, there is almost no oversight or disclosure when things go wrong. "Many people I spoke to feel that these operations ... were counterproductive and actually had turned their families against the U.S.-backed government in Kabul and against the U.S.," says Billing.

Kill Or Capture Inside The CIA's Secret Afghan Army | The Canary |

In 2021, thousands of Afghans who'd worked for the occupation forces during the war were brought to the US. That's well known. But reports are now saying alleged shooter Rahmatullah Lakanwal worked with the CIA in Kandahar region, Afghanistan.

He may even be connected with the same CIA death squads I tracked in the country in 2020, not long before the occupation fell apart. You can see my documentary report.

Six years since Barack Obama said the U.S. would leave Afghanistan, they're still there and the war is as bad as ever: with war crimes, civilian deaths and air strikes increasing, despite the recent peace talks.

Former British soldier Joe Glenton has been back to Afghanistan to see how the country has changed since he was there in 2006 and to investigate the shady, CIA-funded paramilitaries killing innocent Afghans with impunity.
