Today, the UN released a report stating that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and warning that failure to intervene means complicity. How far can Israel go? We asked former Lieutenant General Mart de Kruif.
This means that the ground offensive, which Israel had announced for some time, has now begun. On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the United Nations published a report explicitly stating that Israel is guilty of genocide in Gaza.
The report emphasizes that countries that fail to intervene, or turn a blind eye, risk being complicit. The crucial question now is: how far can Israel go? And what does this mean for the future of the region?
In this program, we speak with former Lieutenant General Mart de Kruif. He puts Israel's military strategy into perspective and emphasizes that these types of operations rarely lead to lasting peace or a lasting security situation. Mart de Kruif is a former lieutenant general in the Royal Netherlands Army. He served, among other positions, as a commander in Afghanistan and held the position of Commander of the Royal Netherlands Army in the Netherlands. After his active service, he regularly appears as an analyst and commentator.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Monday in Jerusalem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as close U.S. ally Qatar gathered other Arab nations' leaders for a summit to issue unified condemnation of last week's Israeli airstrike targeting Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital.
On Sunday, President Trump urged Netanyahu's government to be "very careful" following the airstrike in Doha.
"They have to do something about Hamas, but Qatar has been a great ally to the United States," Mr. Trump told reporters at Morristown airport in New Jersey.
Speaking Monday alongside Rubio, Netanyahu heaped praise on the Trump administration for its staunch, increasingly unique international support of Israel's tactics in its ongoing war against Hamas -- which has long been designated a terrorist organization by the U.S., Israel and the European Union -- in the Gaza Strip.
"Your presence here today sends a clear message that America stands with Israel," Netanyahu said.

Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum director Dani Dayan calls out Israel's Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan for donning a yellow Star of David during his address to the Security Council yesterday, saying it "dishonors both the victims of the Holocaust and the State of Israel."

In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s killing, President Trump and his allies have laid out a broad plan to target liberal groups, monitor speech, revoke visas and designate certain groups as domestic terrorists.
“The radical left has done tremendous damage to the country,” President Trump told reporters outside the White House on Tuesday, as he continued to play down violence on the right.
President Trump has begun a major escalation in his long-running efforts to stifle political opposition in the United States, using the assassination of the right-wing activist Charlie Kirk to make the baseless argument that Democratic organizations and protesters are part of a violent conspiracy against conservative values and the American way of life.
In the six days since Mr. Kirk was gunned down in Utah, Mr. Trump and his top officials have promised a broadside against the political left, indicating that they would go after liberal groups like George Soros’s Open Society Foundations and the Ford Foundation; begin federal investigations into hate speech; and designate certain groups domestic terrorists.
“We want everything to be fair; it hasn’t been fair, and the radical left has done tremendous damage to the country,” Mr. Trump told reporters on Tuesday, as he continued to play down and excuse violence on the right. “But we’re fixing it.”
