Special planes : the Airbus 400 military airlifter (A400M).

by Elco B Sat Apr 1st, 2006 at 03:17:55 PM EST

On 28 february 2006 the new TP400-D6 engine fitted with FH386 propeller made his first succesful testrun.
Also in february, Airbus'Filton plant (near Bristol,UK) started machining wingribs (with machines provided by Japanese Makino).
Yes ; no, the A400M doesn't exist yet! First test-flight is sheduled for 2008.
But this plane is the result of military wet dreams, European politics, international financial constructions and there is even a Russian connection and maybe American manipulation.

A CAD model of the A400M.

Special planes : the CRI-CRI

by Elco B Fri Mar 17th, 2006 at 05:28:38 PM EST

This is the smallest bi-motor plane ever build, a serious candidate to become our first ET-community plane. One person fits in but what counts is what is between his ears, we are a think-thing, aren't we?

                           Small is beautiful.

European attitudes toward energy

by Elco B Fri Mar 3rd, 2006 at 08:22:53 AM EST

Yesterday, the WWF launched the PowerSwitch! campaign . Global warming is a very hot issue and the way we provide for our energy is strongly related. The European Commission comes under growing pressure to do something after all the fighting this week. But our well (over)paid EU personnel is working ! In January there was a publication of a survey(pdf). This publication has tons of data and graphs which are sometimes very surprising. The fact that this survey was aimed at the consumers and not at politicians, party's,unions nor companies makes this survey remarkable.

The whole exercise was made in view of the Green paper on "A secure, competitive and sustainable Energy Policy for Europe" to be published by European Commission in March, 2006.  At the end of the diary some graphs as a teaser.

From the diaries, with minor title change ~ whataboutbob
