Early Friday Photography Blog #145.

by LEP Thu Jun 24th, 2010 at 02:25:15 PM EST

Saturday, June 19th, the start of the three day Fete de la Musique at Milly La Foret in L'Isle de France. A very cold evening; we were dressed for winter.

ET'er estHer was caught break dancing

and singing in a rodk band

There was also a great "salsa" group with a dancing couple.

So post your photos please. Today it's "Photos as Usual" "and Ask the Experts."

I'll post more photos later tonight.

"Name That Building"-the game we'll play today.

We'll try to identify some of the sites I shot on my Paris bus ride today. In addition there'll be some "Groucho Marks 'who is burried in Grant's Tomb' giveaways"

Of course we'll have our "Photos As Usual" and "Ask the Experts" sections.

Happy posting!

Compare these two photos.

It's not easy. They were shot 39 months apart with the same camera (Nikon D-80)but with different lenses and at different focal lenghts; the first at 130mm and the second at 200mm. For some reason the flash was used in the first photo, no doubt because I was just learning how to use my first SLR camera.

Today, our special subject will be "Comparisons." We'll also have our very popular "Photos as Usual" and "Ask the Experts."

Happy posting!

Early Friday Photography Blog #139

by LEP Sun May 16th, 2010 at 10:49:16 AM EST

Welcome to the 139th edition of the ET Photography Blog. Here's a photo of our winter garden.

I say winter because even though it's the middle of May, the temperature for the last several day has hovered around 10 celcius in the daytime. I've restoked the old wood stove and put the woolies back on. I wonder if there's something to this 'climate change'?

Today we'll have "Photos as Usual" and "Ask the Experts."

Happy posting!

Welcome to ET Photo Blog # 135.

Well, Spring is arriving in full splendor and I'll (my wife?) will soon be cutting grass. I just took a photo of our magnolia tree in its full splendor and although it's late (7:30 p.m.) and a bit dark, it's still quite lovely.

So, I'll ask that everyone post their photos of Spring as tonight's special subject. W'ell also have Photos as Usual and Ask the Experts.

Happy posting!

Early Friday Photography Blog #131.

by LEP Sat Mar 20th, 2010 at 05:02:01 AM EST

Greetings and welcome to the 131st edition of the Eurotrib Photography Blog.

As you know I haven't taken many photos this year (I've gotten to hate winter) but I did take a few yesterday at the 16th Birthday Party of the girl  who I believe to be the youngest registered member of ET. You haven't seen much of her this past year; she's extremely busy with the 10th grade which is the start of high school in France. So, Happy Birthday to estHer ;)

Today we'll have "Photos as Usual" and the "Ask the Experts" technical section.

Happy Posting!

Early Friday Photography Blog #129

by LEP Thu Mar 4th, 2010 at 01:49:10 PM EST

Greetings and welcome to the ET Photography Blog, 129th edition. I dicovered, in my camera, this shot of an interesting Paris Paris sky taken from my window just before the new year. We'll use this to launch today's photo blog.

Today was a cool and blustery sunny day in Paris and I got out, for the first time in a long time, with my camera and took a long walk from Place de Clichy to the Gare St. Lazare. (Wet and cold winters don't agree with me any more.) So I'll post some of those photos below.
.
We'll do "Photos as Usual" and "Ask the Expert."

Happy posting!

Early Friday Photography Blog #127.

by LEP Sun Feb 21st, 2010 at 07:39:31 AM EST

Greetings and welcome to the 127th edition of the Eurotrib photo blog. I'm going to rely on some older photos that have previously appeared here, in order to get us started. I must shamefully admit that I have not done much photography wise this winter so tonight I'm just the vehicle for you active ones.

I'll use an old photo of estHer's to lead off tonight's special subject, "black and white." estHer hasn't taken many photos lately either; last year it was because of boys, and this year it's the 10th grade; she has too much work the find the time.

We'll also have "photos as usual" and "ask the experts."

Happy posting! Bumped by In Wales

Greetings and welcome to the 123rd edition of The ET photoblog. This has been what seems like a very long winter so I'm going to suggest that we look ahead three months to see the pleasant times that await us.

So today we'll have a special section for "photos of springtime" as well as "photos as usual" and "ask the experts."

Happy Posting!

Today I'm 73. (4th in a series)

by LEP Tue Dec 8th, 2009 at 02:15:57 AM EST

Merde!

Another year has passed. Lately, I've been having these "nightmares" about meeting the "Grim Reaper."

                                                                 My Grim Reaper

Of course, the French would say: " Ce n'est pas un cauchemar, c'est une reve."

But there are some advantages to being 73. For example, I recently developed very high blood pressure. At first glance that doesn't sound so great. But of course, every "yang" has its "ying" and visa versa. In addition to changing medicines I was forced to go on a crash diet, no salts and no more potato chips and dry sausage. For me that was very hard. But I did lose five or six pounds within ten days and developed that "lean and mean" look; well almost!
I did notice, however, that every time I went to the supermarket some attractive sixtiish looking woman would smile at me and try to strike up a conversation. That could work out for me if I spoke better French and wasn't so deaf-especially in French. But I'm working on these deficiencies.
The only problem with all this is that my wife keeps asking me why I'm going to the supermarket so often.
I tell her that I forgot something and at 73 that's a quite plausible excuse.

So, if you've gotten this far thanks for putting up with my ramblings. I promise to stop these diaries at 80. And I'll see you all later; I have a 9 o'clock appointment in the meat section at Intermarche.

If you don't, don't you wish you lived in France.

This is one of the tartes we had for my wife's 50th birthday party this Sunday past. It's tough having to eat these things so often; my blood pressure has gone out of sight and my cholesterol is at the limit. And I'll be forced to have another one of these when we celebrate my seventy something birthday in two weeks. I just made an appointment with a natureopath today who will put me on a special dietary regime to bring my body back to earth; after my birthday of course. Doesn't that sound like lots of fun-probably yogurt and granola cereal all the time.

So today we'll do Photos as Usual and Ask the Experts.

Happy posting!

Early Friday Photography Blog #113

by LEP Sun Nov 15th, 2009 at 06:01:08 AM EST

Greetings and welcome to the ET photography blog #113. Yesterday, being a holiday was a day of choral concerts in my region. It was a beautiful autumn day. My kids, sang in this church in a small village in the department of Essonne (91).

The first one to name the village wins a complementary sushi dinner for two, courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. lep.

So today, because I'm out of ideas for special subjects, we'll do "photos as usual" and "ask the experts".

Happy posting.

I hope In Wales won't be angry at me but I'm so anxious to expose (Is that the right word?) my photos from the 40th floor of an appartment I stayed in last week in New York City.

So here goes.

That's Central Park to the left bottom.

Today is "Photos as Usual" and "Ask the Experts."

Happy Posting.

Photography Blog #105

by LEP Sun Sep 20th, 2009 at 05:35:33 AM EST

I'm still recovering from all the eating and drinking of last weekend but duty is calling so here's #105.

When we were leaving Pere Lachaise cemetary last Friday at 6 p.m. afew said to me, "look at that, we have a straight shot view of the Tour Montparnarse which is half way to the other side of Paris. I had just my little Canon Elph with me and the sun was facing straight on but I shaded the lens with my hand and got a passable what turned out to be black and white photo.

[FINAL] Census taking for Sept. 11 meetup at Pere Lachaise

by LEP Thu Sep 10th, 2009 at 09:22:05 AM EST

[FINAL] I've made reservations for Friday evening at 7p.m. at the New Nioullaville restaurant, for 13-15 persons. The address is 32, rue de l'Orillon in the 11th arondissement. It is a couple of blocks east of Metro station Belleville (on Blvd. de Belleville) and then right for about 100 meters. I ate there tonight and it was excellent. We can eat a la carte, dim sum or a banquette menu for about 27 euros a head. My friend and I never left the dim sum except for adding a delicious plate of chinese vegetables. Our bill was 38 euros including a glass of wine, tea and dessert.

The Friday project is to visit the Pere Lachaise cemetary in Northern Paris (perhaps the most famous non military cemetary in the world) and see the tombs of Jim Morrison and some French notables as well; and afterwards to have a Chinese dinner.
